MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 9:44 AMHello everyone I'm here to talk about the things on Godzillas neck, now I'm new here so yeah but I have heard things about this site talking about gills or somethingwell for 1 if you look at Godzillas muscle diagram you can clearly see there are no slits cause if those werekills they would go straight into the neck cause thats what gills do andhearth would of announced that by now and someone said Godzilla is anamphibian, that's not true because just because he's amphibious doesn't mean he's an amphibian because hipppotamus are amphibious and someone said that he does have gills well how do you know have youmseen the movie no you haven't your just assuming and Garth even said how the movie is realistic he said that the movie is realistic in a force of nature and a world wide reaction type of way now those thingson thefront of his neck are scales but the ones on the sides of his neck are scalnow and if they were gills you would see the red Gill arches but see Garth would of said they were gills if they were because we have see the flaps on his neck and Garth would tell us ithere's we're but there just flaps of skin and scales there not a big thing if you know what I mean, and they way Godzillas breaths under water is because see Godzilla breaths oxygen when he's in space and under the sea and obviously when he's on land because his lungs are not like any humans or animals and his lung capacity isbeyond humans. Now someone said on here Godzilla could be real and everybody bashed down on him and you shouldn't bash down on someone's beliefs unless you have a really good reason to do so and a lot of people on this site are kinda jerks just saying and by the way I heard to be carful cause some of the jerky people on here close your discussions now I can se the somediscussions are just silly and pointess but not all of them are .
Have a good day :-)

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 10:53 AMI had some trouble reading this. You need to space out your thoughts using the Enter key. Periods really help too, because right now you kind of seem like a ranting crazy person. Not to say that you are one, just that you're coming off as one due to poor grammar.
That muscle diagram you're referencing is fan art, not official, so anything shown in that can't be taken as canon.
In regards to Gareth saying 'it's realistic', he was more refering to the tone of the film and how people with be acting. Who's the say that him having gills makes it less realistic? If he's been sleeping under the ocean for hundreds or thousands of years, wouldn't he need to have kills in order to not drown?
There's absolutely no guarantee that Gareth would have told us if they were gills or not. He's not going to be revealing every single detail before the movie comes out.
In the future, if you're trying to be careful about 'jerky people' closing your discussion, you probably shouldn't mention it in the article.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 11:29 AMIt's gills, they made him more realistic and what better way to do that but make him amphibious.

Marvelgoji
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 11:30 AMGodzilla has slept in the sea before and hey we will just have to see the movie to know what they are Toronto he doesn't have to have gills and Garth said that Godzilla will be original to the classic Godzilla but he will look different and be bigger and his breath obviously looks different :)

Marvelgoji
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 11:32 AMOmg hippos are amphibious do they have gills no and you don't they if they are gills your just assuming they are because have you seen an exclusive look at him swimming or have you seen the movie no
Nobody
knows what they are yet except for Garth and the actors and Godzilla himself

Duratok
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 11:33 AMGiving this Godzilla gills wouldn't destroy the original vision of Godzilla. A cornerstone for Godzilla isn't 'it must not have gills, no matter what'.
In regards to Godzilla sleeping in the sea before, that's using the old canon. I wouldn't base anything you've seen in this movie on what has happened in the older movies.
Hippos can stay underwater for 6 minutes, a crocodile for 15-30 minutes, 90 minutes to 2 hours. I imagine a gill-less Godzilla could stay under water for a few days, I can't imagine it simply living down there for hundreds or thousands of years.
Why don't you want it to have gills? This seems to be a point that makes you very upset.

DannyBlazor
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 11:38 AMWell giving a reptile gills would be the only way godzilla could "sleep" underwater for that long. And I said amphibious, not amphibian.

Linkzilla
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 11:41 AMGiving Godzilla gills wouldn't actually make him more realistic. Since his body produces its own nuclear energy (and, based on the giant Godzilla toy description, that trait is intact in this incarnation), he shouldn't actually need to respirate at all to survive. Hopefully, they did take this into consideration when designing him, because if he has to breathe, that makes him a whole lot more stoppable (ever heard of chemical weapons?).

Marvelgoji
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 12:06 PMWe will wait and see in the movie but they could just be flaps of skin and scales and his lungs may be the same as the classic gojira lungs but we will have to see

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 12:53 PMYou're forgetting!
The shot of the MUTO fighting Godzilla in the trailer....look where the MUTO is biting Godzilla!
He's going for exact area the gills are. Coincidence? I think not :-)
The gills man!!! DA GILLS!!! Godzilla's only weakness!!!

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 12:56 PMTrolling silliness aside, this gills topic has been done to death. Surely this could have been added in a pre-existing gills thread, as it doesn't really trudge up any new angles on the debate.
I don't personally think they are gills just because they don't really look like gills to me. But if they are gills, I don't see why it's a big deal. Like it doesn't really matter does it? So long as it doesn't become significant plot point in the movie what difference does it really make if Godzilla has gills or not? It's just not a topic worth getting riled up about imo.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 1:52 PMThe "gills" looks more like thick hide to me.

those are gills on his neck they made godzilla realistic and to understand how godzilla can breathe under the water you give him gills.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 2:17 PMconsideirng in most movies Godzilla is in the ocean/ ocean floor. It would only make sense for him to have gills or at least have some way to stay under water for a really, really long time....I think it only adds to the overall design and "realness" of the new Godzilla.

Also, the gills are just speculation. Why does this particular subject upset you so much? Do you irrationally hate any speculation about this movie, or is it just with the gills?

Marvelgoji
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 2:22 PMNo I love Godzilla i hate that people are acting like they have seen the movie and know what those things are

Huge-Ben
MemberBaragonApr-07-2014 2:23 PM@connor potasse
the gills are no longer speculation gareth edwards himself has confirmed that they are indeed gills :)

I have no problems with Godzilla having gills. As Bigbadben, Kaiju1954, and many others have stated, it's a more biologically plausible anatomical feature considering where he is 99% of the time. Citing this so-called "muscle diagram," which was something created by a DA artist and NOT someone involved with the actual design at WETA and Legendary, as gospel that has irrevokable consequences to the design of the creature in the film is taking things too far. I think getting a kinked colon over this is a big waste of time and energy. It's like arguing over what happens on what deck based on some fan drawing of the USS Enterprise.

Marvelgoji
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 2:24 PMThe original Godzilla didn't have gills his lungsahead the capacity of no humans that's how he breaths under water and adagio doesn't know what they are either no body does

Moses
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 2:26 PMI don't ever remember Gareth Edwards saying Godzilla has gills. And I've been following this movie since from the very first promotional artwork and the day it was annouced.

true the original gojira never had gills but when talking realism in a movie the producers have to make it seem as real as possible that is why they gave him gills so that the audience can identify with how he can breath under the water :)

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 2:42 PM@Bigbadben,
I'm curious, where did you hear this Gareth Edwards interview? I'd like to check it out myself, if you could find a link.

Marvelgoji
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 3:02 PMYes we're is this interview and if you inspect themclosely in the trailers they look like flaps of skin or thick hide and the things on the front of his neck are scales and actually the audience would figure that the way he breaths under water is that he just breaths normaly :)

Marvelgoji
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 3:03 PMAnd if you inspect the figures and toys they look like flaps of skin or thick hide

Duratok
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 3:27 PMNo need to spread out your posts like that.
Looking at the toys, pictures, and in-game items, I still see gills.
Check this sucker out. This is one of the oldest species on the planet. It was recently re-discovered after being thought to be dead for millions of years. Notice it's very distinct gills and the sharp ridges. They're remarkably similar to the flaps on the sides of Godzilla's neck.

ZillaForLife
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 3:28 PM@MARVELGOLI Well if your comparing Godzilla to human lungs, lets compare everything.
Godzilla is really big, we small. Godzilla can "live" on the ocean floor/at intence pressure,we can't.Godzilla can survive a nuke, we can't. Godzilla cant walk down the street without destroying it, we can. Anyway the list goes on, my point is, don't compare godzilla(all hail) to a puny human.

GIYGAS
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-07-2014 3:36 PMMarvelGoji, it's Gareth, not Garth. He is not from Waynes's World. I do think those are gills though, it would make sense.
