Crushed tanks! Helpless people on a subway train scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them! Whole military units dedicated to defending from giant monsters!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2013 1:03 AMMy earliest memory of Godzilla was my first Godzilla film: Godzilla vs Gigan. I remember thinking Gigan was some sort of giant eagle and i kept calling King Ghidorah king Adora. And I thought Godzilla and Angiras was an awesome team up.

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Gojira will return.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-15-2013 2:27 PMGreat question - but I don't know that I can answer. I have always been a big fan of dinosaurs, of monsters, of cryptids. Why? That is tougher! I do recall getting a license plate for my tricycle (seriously) , in the early 1960s, that had Godzilla on it, long before I ever saw a Godzilla movie. It (obviously) made a big impression on me! I would say two other big contributors were the local theater which showed "kids movies" every weekend -- remember, this is pre VCRs, pre DVDs, pre-cable TV, so we didn't care that these were second and third run movies, they were a big deal to us, and the theater showed a lot of "giant monster" fare. AND a local UHF station hereabouts ran pretty much all of the Godzilla movies, one a week, on either Friday or Saturday nights. They even ran ads for them in the local papers! Watching that run, pretty much "unspoiled" cemented it for me. But again, as to the :WHY" ... have to give that some thought!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-18-2013 12:57 AMI feel that timing and the way those great Toho movies were made is what made me such a fan. I was lucky to grow up outside NYC in the 70's where every local station seemed to be competing against each other to see who can show more giant monster movies. Every week my friends and [] would scour the TV guide in our local paper to see which films would be on this week. We would all meet at my house, since my Mother was the only Mom who not only wouldn't giggle at us but actually watch with us! So, I believe very happy memories is a reason I am still such a fan. The second was the grandness of the movies themselves. Big color spectaculars done so well by Honda with amazing monsters and outlandish plots and truly spectacular soundtracks by Ifukube! They were movies that I just fell in love with!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-24-2013 7:15 AMMine was actually NOT a Godzilla film. My dad (who died when I was 6) was into home movies in the 70's, and he bought my younger brother and I each a 2-1/2 minute super-8mm movie as presents - my brother got a Popeye cartoon, and I got a silent black-&-white version of "Rodan" (which I still have). I was confused later in life when I played that film reel and didn't hear anything, until I remembered that my dad provided the dialogue and sound effects. Seeing a giant flying dinosaur smahing down through the roof of a building in almost-slow-motion scarred my brain for life, in the best way possible. I may have seen Godzilla before that (my dad was a fan of sci-fi & horror), but "Rodan" is what I believe got me started on loving the giant monster movies on Chiller Theater late at night. Sorry this was so long, I kinda got caught up.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-17-2013 8:35 PMi was about 4, in a target and saw the box for the 1998, horrible american Godzilla (Zilla). i could't get it. couple years later i get a 5 box set of the Godzilla movies. so it was a combo of curiosity, dinosaur fascination and the fact its a huge fire breathing monster that is indestructible. who wouldn't enjoy that. NOTHING DESTROYS GODZILLA!

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-19-2013 9:50 PMOkay. I remember when I was growing up. The day after thanksgiving there was always a monster movie marathon on tv. I would plop myself down in front of my tv and not move all day.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-21-2013 5:50 PMWell I was born 1970 and one day my brother and his friends was watching Godzilla . He was supposed to be watching me being 9 years older but when he remembered me I was right behind them watching the movie too . He thought it might be to scary for me so they changed the Chanel but found out every time they changed it I would cry . So I've been watching the big guy since I was 2-3 years old or younger .

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-21-2013 6:49 PMGodzilla v Mothra was the first movie and i was hooked. Luckily in the mid 70's these movies played all the time on tv. I still love them today and have passed that love to my sons.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-24-2013 12:37 AMSummer of 1988. I was seven years old, and already a huge King Kong fan. I saw that King Kong Vs. Godzilla was showing on TBS one afternoon, and I started watching it halfway through. I was watching it for Kong, but by the end of the movie, I was hooked on Godzilla. All throughout 2nd and 3rd Grade, I absolutely devoured every Godzilla VHS I could get my hands on. I don't know what it was I loved so much about Godzilla, but it's a fascination that's never left me.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-28-2013 6:35 PMI was 4 years old when my grandmother put Mothra vs Godzilla on the TV (originally called Godzilla vs The Thing). Since then, I started watching other films in the series, from Godzilla vs Megalon, to VS MechaGodzilla, to even GMK, and the 1956 re-edit of the 1954 classic Gojira starring Raymond Burr.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-08-2013 12:56 PMGodzilla look ! I was young like 4-5 when I saw my first godzilla movie. I was and still love dinosaurs so the idea of a giant t-rex looking dinosaur stomping on city was the coolest thing i had seen. My dad was a little bit of a fan so he introduced me to them. I think the first one i saw was the original Godzilla. Then I saw Godzilla 1984 which I like the look but the story line kind of stunk. I was hooked for life my cellphone cover is even the 90's Japanese version of the Big G

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-13-2013 11:22 PMI guess what really made me a fan was my father. He first showed me King of the Monsters at a young age and I instantly fell in love with it. After that, he had shown me a few more movies in the series. I jumped at every opportunity I had to see a new film. I have since seen them all and own most of them on DVD now. While they aren't as awe inspiring as when I saw them as a kid, they are still good fun to watch. I can't wait to see what Legendary does with the Franchise in 2014.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-16-2013 3:27 AMI was born a G-Fan, no bs. I can't remember not loving Godzilla. It helps that my dad loves these kind of movies, I'll admit that. My first Godzilla movie ever was the original 1954 Gojira. Sure, this fascination is related to my love of dinosaurs...but Godzilla was what made me interested in dinosaurs, not the opposite. I love Godzilla because he is an unstoppable force that we can do nothing against but hide and wait for it to pass, like a tornado or hurricane...the concept is meant to put us in our place in nature...to make us understand just how small and fragile we really are as humans. For those ppl here that say that the 1998 movie was what got them interested...you are not true G-Fans...Godzilla IS NOT an irradiated IGUANA, he DOES NOT blow "fire", and YOU CANNOT KILL HIM! GOJIRA FOREVER!!!
Gojira804
MemberMothra LarvaeMay-16-2013 3:38 AMI can also honestly say that I own and have seen EVERY Godzilla movie there is...from the ORIGINAL 1954 Gojira to Final Wars. This is the only movie, among ALL the really good looking movies I've seen anything about, that I am determined to see in theaters. Did I mention that I have ALL of the comics, too?

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-20-2013 7:01 PMI saw Godzilla, King of the Monsters on Million Dollar Movie on WNOR for the first time in the late 1950's. It was the suspense that hooked me, never seeing the monster until halfway through the film. I've got all the Godzilla movies on DVD and am working on collecting the rest of the Kaiju.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-22-2013 1:14 PMWhat made me a Godzilla fan? I guess the best answer to that would be my father, I remember him always watching the Godzilla movies with me on a weekday afternoon on channel 50 from Detroit when I was a kid. My love of the series just grew from that. The best film of the Kaiju series from Toho Co. was Rodan by far, every time I seen that particular film as a kid I would cry because Rodan lost his true love and killed himself in the fire of the volcano that erupted. However, as an adult I would say that Godzilla Final Wars was the first and only film I saw that not only kicked ass, but broke the 2 hour mark as a Toho film. I cannot wait for the new Godzilla film. I am totally psyched for it and will see it hopefully at the drive in when it opens in my area. Do it justice Gareth. :)
