(NOTE: This is only a theory, and therefore anything I say regarding the plot is not for absolute certain)
Well with the recent announcement that Godzilla vs. Kong has begun filming it did make me start to wonder, what is the exact story behind this movie? And on top of that, where would the Monsterverse go after this? Well, why don't we elaborate on what could very well be what goes down in the next installment, as well as where this could potentially go.
Some of you may not know, but it seems that this year's entry, as well as Godzilla vs. Kong may be setting the stage for Toho's Destoroyah or Biollante to appear as the titular villain in Godzilla 3, thus potentially giving WB and Legendary a monstrous end to the franchise, or a monstrous beginning. With King Ghidorah appearing in Godzilla 2, it's difficult to top the villain with another Godzilla movie. Perhaps the most feasible option, then, is Destoroyah, a villain whose origin may actually be teased in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but we'll come back to that soon enough. Heck, for all we know, he could be the new threat in this film, but for now, let's talk about what I feel could very well be the plot for Godzilla vs. Kong.
The story begins a few short years after the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and it's here that Monarch decides to return to Skull Island after many years to report on how Kong, that last of his kind, is doing. Only to find that Kong is suddenly nowhere to be found on the island. They do extensive searches of where he usually would be on the island, but not a single trace of him is left. It's then that they're given a report on his possible whereabouts, and begin pursuing him. Sometime later they do eventually find him, only to find he's much larger then ever before, at least 2/3 the size of Godzilla now. They're still unclear as to why he left the island. Was it because there was simply no longer any threats on the island that needed to be managed after so many years of defending it? Or is it perhaps that an even bigger threat is somewhere out there? With this possibility in mind, they assume that maybe it's Godzilla that he now sees as a threat, and continue to follow just in case. Soon after, they get reports that Godzilla is heading in the same direction as that of Kong, and days later, there battle begins. The battle goes on for quite some time, and it seems like Godzilla would reign supreme, that is until a new threat emerges from the pacific ocean. That threat is a creature created from a weapon originally used to kill Godzilla, and that creature is code-named, Destroyah. Realizing this, they all decide to work together the fight this threat. Sure enough, Destroyah proves to be quite the formidable foe even with the both of 'em working together, but with Kong's wits and Godzilla's strength, they eventually defeat Destroyah and things seem to return to normal... or do they?
This would of course raise the question, where would Billonte fit in with all of this? To find out my answer to this, be sure to check out my last article about How Billonte Can Work in the Monsterverse. And until then, I'm King Gargantuas and I'll see y'all next time!
