Anyone else disappointed with the new Shin-Gojira trailer?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, am I the only one who thinks Toho blew their wad too early, showing the entire suit and all? I think that we can all agree that while Godzilla 2014's marketing was kinda slow, the trailers we got were great. They managed to create tense trailers while still hinting at how the full-fledged design would look. I feel like now there is no sense of speculation or wonder about how ShinGoji will move for feel, since we saw everything. I just feel like it would've added to the overall idea over this newer, darker incarnation, purely from appealing to our fear of the unknown. I guess I can understand if Toho thought that because there was already leaked pictures, there's no reason to hold back, but I believe that a few leaked pictures shouldn't affect how you market an entire film.

Well, unlike legendary, Toho wasn't afraid to show Godzilla. That is an A+ in my book.

2014 Really didn't stay true to its trailers. They did the bait and switch technique and that's not the right thing to do.

This is Tokusatsu. Japan's tradition and artform. It's because of Tokusatsu that made us all fans of this franchise to begin with. Plus Tokusatsu defines Godzilla's legacy and saga.

I feel that there is still-at least potentially-a lot of room for aspects of Godzilla's mystery to still be revealed. It all depends on how he is portrayed and made to emote. In tokusatsu, monsters have personalities and are distinct characters, not just plot devices. I believe we're going to see a lot more than the trailer revealed, and that we'll be shocked, enthralled and delighted, God willing.

Has toho ever withheld their design in their theatrical trailers? I'm curious myself but from what I'v seen doubt it. Seems like its a difference of advertising. People in the west hide the monster toho hides the story.

I agree with Durp004. This is their style. Much less flashy than Legendary's. Not much happens, but look at our new Godzilla!

I would have loved something on par with Godzilla's appearance in the imaginary sequence in "Always Zoku Sanchome no Yuhi". This trailer is not as good.

Since "Attack on Titan" did not get good reviews, I have kept my expectations low. I think it's best to go in with lower expectations anyway.

I thought the trailer was great. They needed to make a statement in order to stand apart from the American Godzilla series, and IMO the only way to do that is to show him in all his rubber-suit glory. You could argue that they spoiled his look, but all he did was walk around and get shot at, so we didn't really get a grasp of what he's capable of. Theres also the question of whether he has more than one form, because we only saw one.

As a teaser trailer this does a pretty good job of getting across the movie's vibe while not revealing much of the plot. We start seeing Godzilla, looking fake in the sped-up first shot, to let us know that this is a Japanese Godzilla movie. Then we see his tail and finally him just gargantuan over the horizon. I'm sure the series of shots of different actors holds more relevance for Japanese audiences, who may be more familiar with all the Cameos. And then we get to see a few more shots of Godzilla establishing that humans are gonna fight him, that their weapons don't have much effect, and, again, that he is frigging huge.

I would bet money that the music is from the final score, because the style matches the composer compared to his work in the Evangelion Rebuilds and Attack on Titan.

@AINM, you can have a little faith! Hideaki Anno is a terrific writer/director. His anime Evangelion set the bar for anime and is consistently listed as in all the Top Ten Best Animes lists. He's very talented! His Godzilla may not appeal to everyone but it's going to be a movie to be reckoned with in it's own right.

Don't get me wrong, I still loved the trailer in its own right, I just feel like some things are better left held back until the full reveal when the film comes out.

@Panthalassan I did like the music. The one shot of the huge tail passing over was cool. I like the design of Godzilla. Will all those teeth though I wonder if it is part shark. It definitely looks like a movie I'd rather see in a theatre than on TV.

As others have said, no I wasn't disappointed with the trailer. It wasn't going to play out like Legendary's anyways. This is Toho's style of film, not to mention, they wanted the fans to see what this new Godzilla looked like. With so much speculation and early criticism, they almost had to fully reveal Shin-Gojira to win over their fan base.
