AdminGodzillaJan-29-2015 4:13 PMThanks for checking Wraith.
Seems like you're good to go with the 2014 Blu-Ray disc, Jamaal. It's simply the 2011 version without all the bells and whistles.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-29-2015 8:29 PMThanks, guys.
I ordered it from Amazon today.
Now, my Saturday is set, God willing. :)

G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaJan-29-2015 9:21 PMUnfortunately no. Other than the international dub and Japanese language track, the 2014 version of DAM is completely barebones. You can try hunting down the 2011 version, but even if you find it the price won't be favorable, to say the very least.

G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaJan-30-2015 10:50 AMYes. And a great, great deal more.

MemberBaragonJan-30-2015 4:59 PM^Yep, they produced that version too. They ran into legal trouble and so, after the film was re-released, the special features were removed. The 2011 version can be found (eBay, Amazon, etc.), but both the DVD and the Blu-ray will cost you anywhere between $50 to $100... on a GOOD day. Its easy to find of you look for it, but affording it is another story.
If you decide that's the way you want to go, I wish you luck on your hunt! :)

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-30-2015 6:30 PMOn second thought, maybe enjoying the film in its purity, without any frills, is the way to go. ;)

AdminGodzillaJan-30-2015 6:37 PM^Even though I own the 2011 edition and this comment seems souless because of it: That's the way to go, Jamaal.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-30-2015 8:11 PMIt's been a while since I've watched it. It's the last Godzilla film feauturing the creative team of Tanaka, Honda, Tsubaraya and Ifukube. It was, truly, the end of an era.
Then, I'm gonna watch some of my favorites: Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster, Mothra vs. Godzilla and Monster Zero (a.k.a., Invasion of Astro Monster).
I just watched Gojira and Godzilla, King of the Monsters with the commentaries by Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski. After listening to their comments about the nuclear symbolism in Gojira, which is really a cautionary tale about the dangers of weapons of mass destruction, Steve Ryfle's criticism of Legendary's Godzilla is easier to understand. You don't have to agree with him point by point. But, it becomes clearer. It least, it did to me. Ryfle also felt that in Gojira, Ishiro Honda did speak directly, to some degree, to the United States regarding its use and continued testing of nuclear weapons.
Here's the article written by Steve Ryfle:
http://worldcinemaparadise.com/2014/05/18/special-report-whitewashing-godzilla/
He makes some valid points regarding the new Godzilla film. After watching Gojira again, I contiue to be impressed with how truly great it is. This was lightning caught in a bottle.
So, I want to rewatch some of the films from Godzilla's 'Golden Age.' I love the characters in them as much as the SPFX scenes (and they are great, 50 some odd years later).

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-30-2015 9:00 PMAnd for more Showa-Quality kaiju spectacle, I plan to watch Gamera, Guardian of the Universe. To me, it's an updated, '90's version of a 1960's Toho giant monster movie.
Thank you, Shusuke Kaneko, Shinji Higuchi, Kazunori Ito and Ko Ohtani.
I smile just thinking about it. It brings me so much joy. G:GOTU is the perfect set up for the creepy, alien-centered Gamera 2: Advent of Legion.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-13-2015 5:45 AMI've been watching the Classic Media box set the past few days and I've made up my mind: I don't care if they never come out on bluray, this is a beautiful picture for a dvd.
JAMAAL:
The new Gameras are pretty great, have you given Gamera The Brave a spin yet? It's a little kid frindly but pretty good anyway.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-04-2015 12:49 PMSo far I have bought all the available Godzilla Blu Rays .The Kraken releases are decent especially for low budget releases . The Biollante blu ray is terrible though still looks like garbage and is still cropped . The english soundtrack to Megalon is dire to say the least . My old vhs copy sounds better .

gfan2000
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-04-2015 1:32 PMSection 23 own Kraken Releasing They also bought out ADV ,which is weird as they owned the rights to Destroy all monsters for a while . I read on a forum that Kraken have no rights to any other Godzilla movies .Some one emailed one of thier reps and he said it was a 3 movie distribution deal only . I'm waiting on a Rodan Blu ray more than anything else , I have Return of Godzilla on Japanese blu ray and it's amazing .

Sorry to get back to you after so long. I was away from this thread.
I haven't seen Gamera The Brave yet. I'm interested, based on what I've heard from fans and read in reviews. Nothing wrong with a kid friendly kaiju film. Part of their appeal is how they appeal to the child within us.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-04-2015 3:59 PMGood luck finding Gamera the Brave on DVD ,As far as i know it was only released for 3 months then discontinued . once in a blue moon a copy pops up on ebay but they are usually over $50.00 I bought the Blu Ray from an importer for that price . You can watch it for free on youtube with subs though . I personally liked the movie ,It's far better than Vs Zigra or Gamera Super monster . as for Kid friendly Gamera the Brave is on the same level as the Mothra trilogy .

How are the effects and the writing?

AdminGodzillaJul-05-2015 12:13 AM"as for Kid friendly Gamera the Brave is on the same level as the Mothra trilogy ."
I don't agree with that in the least. The Mothra trilogy is needlessly kiddie, Gamera the Brave is more akin to Spielbergian, family entertainment.
Jamaal,
Gamera the Brave is an excellent film. A very different direction from the Gamera Trilogy, but well written as a family adventure with plenty of thrills and some of the best effects of the 00s. Not quite Gamera Trilogy level of effects work, but certainly better than some of the Millennium Godzilla series. The miniature work in particular stands out.

MemberBaragonJul-05-2015 3:34 PM^Holy cow, a positive review for Gamera: The Brave! Thank GOD I'm not the only one. Yeah Jamaal, you owe it to yourself to seek out that film and see it. Its honestly one of my favorite films of the genre. Spielbergian is an excelent way to describe it; its really a beautiful, wonderful film. Unfortunately, its one of those films that gets relentlessly sh*t on for reasons I cannot fathom. I can only assume those people are nuts. ;)
Definitely see it. If you are having trouble finding it, let me know and I'll shoot you a PM and tell you where it can be found for NOT 50+ bucks used on eBay!

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-05-2015 7:05 PM^Based on what was posted here, I'm gonna seek it out.
I'll post my reactions to it once I see it, God willing.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-21-2015 4:33 PMGamera The Brave is most definitely worth the money. Didn't mean to make it sound cartoonish, but it's by far waaaaay better than the mothra trilogy. Above par as far as effects, majorety takes place in the afternoon, so it's well lit unlike the other gameras that are mostly dusk and night time. It's my fav of the four new gameras.

AdminGodzillaMay-20-2016 5:51 PMWell, for the first time in awhile this has been updated with The Return of Godzilla.
Additionally, for those waiting on a rerelease of Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla, Kraken Releasing was asked about those titles. This is what they had to say:
"Asked if Kraken Releasing would be licensing U.S. rights for SON OF GODZILLA and GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA (1974) — both of which are now back with Toho — Greenfield replied, “All I can say at this time is that Kraken is still in the process of expanding our collection of classic and modern kaiju titles. We’ve got some big announcements still to come in 2016.”
Sounds to me like Kraken probably has Son of Godzilla and MechaGodzilla '74--In addition to some other possible kaiju releases. More likely coming soon.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-25-2017 5:13 AMAny word on when or even if the new Godzilla Resurgence is going to be released in the US?

G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaJan-25-2017 9:53 AMWraith,
Funimation will be distributing Shin Godzilla to DVD and Blu-ray in North America and, supposedly, supplying their own dub along with the original Japanese language track. Other than that there has been no announcement on the release date.
Toho will want to release it in Japan first and then it will likely be released in America some months later. For a time table worth looking at:
Attack on Titan Part 1 was released in Japanese theaters August 1st, 2015. It was released in American theaters on September 30th, 2015. It was released on DVD/Blu-ray in Japan on February 16th, 2016 and in America on October 4th, 2016.
The sequel, Attack on Titan: At World's End, was released in Japanese theaters September 19th, 2016. It hit American theaters October 20th, 2016. It was released on DVD/Blu-ray March 23rd, 2016 in Japan and December 6th, 2016 in America.
In both instances, Toho had Funimation hold off on releasing the movies to home video roughly 8 months after they were put on DVD/Blu-ray in Japan--Or roughly a year after their American theatrical release.
This is fairly consistent with Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. and Godzilla: Final Wars, both of which were released by Sony on DVD roughly 8 months after they hit DVD shelves in Japan.
So my best guess would be Shin Godzilla for Q4 of this year--Likely December.

AdminGodzillaJan-29-2017 10:13 AMIn other news, Toho Kingdom just unearthed this little interesting listing on Amazon regarding the 2014 film. No idea what it may include or if the quality of picture will be improved. Waiting for more info:
"Godzilla" (2014) Blu-ray - Feb. 7th, 2017 Release Date
EDIT: Unfortunately, it looks like it's just going to be the same disc, re-issued with a new cover as a part of WB's "Monster Mayhem" reissue series. Here's an example of other titles with the new cover:
