AdminGodzillaFeb-09-2020 10:30 AMDude, the Razzies don't even take themselves seriously, why are you?
Also, I need to remind you it could've been a lot worse. It was also on the voting ballot for worst movie, worst director, worst screenplay (which it probably deserves) and others.
(Full ballot of movies here.)
Take the hit. Laugh. Move on.

MemberTitanosaurusFeb-09-2020 11:05 AMG. H. (Gman) I'm sorry. I guess I just felt like we could all finally move on from the KOTM debacle, and now it feels like the wound's been reopened all over again.

AdminGodzillaFeb-09-2020 11:51 AMYou think that's bad? Last month, one of Japan's premiere movie magazines, Eiga Hiho voted KotM as the #1 worst movie of the year.
But because so many different Japanese writers and filmmakers vote on it, it's also on the "Best" list at #19. Many movies are on both lists, though where they are on each tends to vary.
But who cares? If you like it, you like it. Rambo: Last Blood got blasted by critics and eight Razzie noms, but it's a much better movie than credit gives.
We put so much stock into numbers, lists and awards, we don't spend enough time reading about "why?" and "why not?" Don't let this stuff distract you from real criticism and conversation.

MemberBaragonFeb-09-2020 1:19 PMWhy get yourself worked up about this? Yes, perhaps KotM is getting a lot more hate than it deserves, but the only view on the film that should matter to you is your own. You are absolutely able to think about or watch this movie without having contempt on the negative aura about the critics, media, etc...
If someone tells me they hate this film, I can disagree with him / her, but at the same time I can listen to and respect their opinion, and then simply move on.
I honestly did not know that a Razzie even existed until this film got nominated, and that's because I (and perhaps a lot others) just don't care about it. And to be fair, all award shows and things alike are jokes: movies are constantly getting snubbed, winners are now based on political correctness, and the critics / voters from the Academy, Golden Globes, Critic's Choice, etc. are all biased.
I understand if you're disappointed, but don't let this make you angry or ruin the movie for you, because it really shouldn't.

Gomi: Ninja Monster
MemberBaragonFeb-09-2020 7:37 PMEh, I'm used to Godzilla movies getting made fun of constantly, KOTM in particular now, this is kind of par for the course.

MemberGodzillaFeb-09-2020 8:12 PMBut who cares? If you like it, you like it.
Exactly. I like it and really don't care about haters.

AdminGodzillaFeb-09-2020 8:58 PMWho is "they"?

JurassicKaiju14
MemberTitanosaurusFeb-10-2020 5:24 AMIt's so weird coming back here this morning after I've gotten over this. I'm actually kinda embarrassed now.
And Xenotaris, just for the record, don't buy into that idea that Disney or Marvel or whatever are out to deliberately sink the MonsterVerse. Believe me, it is not a threat to the MCU, and it never was.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-17-2020 3:12 PMAlthough I agree that no one should pay attention to what the critics say, obviously they can't be bothered to do research on kaiju movies, it does kind of hurt to see outsiders use this to justify their distaste towards the movie. And I can't imagine what Dougherty must have felt.
I'm one of the newer fans to Godzilla because of KOTM and I fell in love with the movie because it was made passionate Godzilla fans and it was obvious from the start. You could literally see how much care and love was put into the movie. I feel like that should have been recognized, if not by an Oscar, then by the public.
I hope as the MonsterVerse continues more and more people will see why Godzilla has had fans since the beginning.

I think I can answer G.H's question about who 'they' are.
It's referring to the Politically Correct elites in the entertainment industry and on social media.
Remember in KOTM, it's starts off with the idea humans (infection) being responsible for climate change (disease). A lot of what these PC elites and SJWs like to cling onto is the issue about climate change and humans being the only sole cause of it. They insist on everybody else but them to do the hard work to change the world and sacrifice their energy and money.
In the movie, the issue is used as a way to get the ball rolling until we discover the real motive behind the villain. His motive changes the movie's first theme.
The first theme is what 'they' like to preach about, but it changed along the course of the movie. (Pardon if I'm wrong) They can't get ahold of Godzilla because they can't use him for their ideologies.
They can't touch Godzilla because he isn't what they support.

G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaFeb-17-2020 7:03 PMI highly doubt that's going through anyone's minds when critics, moviegoers or fans panned the movie.
As matter of fact, the global warming theme is something that has been praised. I think a lot of this is whistle-blowing for what a lot of people more simply think is a weak movie.
That said, USD_Kaiju, I'm glad King of the Monsters has made some new fans. Welcome to the insanity.
