Thoughts on Godzilla: King of The Monsters (1956)

America's version of the original 1954 Gojira film is not as bad as others think. I think it's quite entertaining and very interesting to watch as America cut out all the symbolism that referenced the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It's nowhere near as good as the original, but I think it's worth the watch. So have you seen it? If so, tell me what you think.

Yes, I mentioned the same with a thread...now a few years back. Considering how awful it could have been, the 1956 film was actually surprisingly good for what it is. Still, the original 1954 will always be the better film.

Hey, I can actually answer this in audio form, as my podcast has already covered this episode.

But I also agree with you that it's not bad. I find it an interesting look from an American viewpoint. Unlike later American "remakes" this one actually adds a lot of new scenes and tries hard to make it believable.

I side with EmptyH here.

It's not bad and it's a fairly entertaining Western perspective. Besides, this is the version that got Godzilla some form of international fame. It must've done something right.

Admittedly I don't go back to it much. The 1954 version just gives me more to chew and I typically find something new to love about it on repeat viewings.

Still enjoy it because it was my very first introduction to Godzilla, and the added scenes are not too intrusive. Although Gojira is a much better film, I continue to have a soft spot for GKOTM.
