MemberBaragonJul-17-2014 7:09 AMHello everyone! Today I have a question for you all. I see a lot of comments here and there comparing Godzilla to Gamera. Now here is the question: What is Gamera (Franchise)? I saw Death Battle with Godzilla vs Gamera so I know he is a giant Tortoise-Like Organism with Solar powers and flying capabilities. Now, I am considering to watch my first Gamera movie, but I dont know if it is worth it. This is where you come in, what is the plot of the Gamera movies and which Gamera movie should be my first to watch? Thank you for the help.
P.S. Mods, I know this isnt about Godzilla, but it is a classic monster movie so I put the topic as Classic Godzilla.

MemberTitanosaurusJul-17-2014 7:17 AMWell, generally, Gamera is an ally to Humanity, helpiung to quell the threat of other giant monsters that put Humanity to the brink. "Usually". Humans sometimes get caught in the crossfire. The original Showa Gamera movies aren't anything special, but the Heisei Trilogy, oh dear lord, the Heisei Trilogy.... THAT is where some of the best Kaiju movie action is at! Great effects, performances, and tokusatsu cinematography! A must for any true Kaiju fan! Also, there is a Milennium movie of which we never speak about :P

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 7:27 AMwell al the showa follow the same theme, Gamera appears, feeds on Fire and energy, another monster apears, gamera figths the monster, gamera gets K.O, they have a rematch, gamera wins, then some Kids run and yell ''Gamera!, Gamera, Gamera!''
most of the gamera movies are started as muckbusters to godzilla, and most of them are really cheap, exept for the heisei, the heisei even toped godzilla!

MemberGiganJul-17-2014 8:27 AMGamera movies are relatively good and bad. If i were to recommend one, watch the heisei ones like Gamera vs iris and such!
Good grief.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 9:35 AMWell the Showa films were really goofy and unlike the early Showa godzilla films they were really aiming towards young kids. The heisei film are incredible being better then the hesisei godzilla films for several reasons. The latest gamera movie gamera the brave sucked ignoring everthing that was excellent with the heisei films and trying to make it more like the Showa films and it does not work in the modern day.

AdminGodzillaJul-17-2014 9:46 AMThe Showa movies aren't very good, but I can't immediately write them off. The first three movies are worth watching and the films may have had a hand in influencing the Godzilla series to appeal to children more.
The 1990s Gamera Trilogy is a whole different beast, easily some of the best daikaiju films of all time and generally much better than 95% of the Godzilla movies made in the 90s/00s.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 12:20 PMThere isn't anything wrong with recommending gamera the brave and I cam see why people like it but I'm with thegman123 here, like I said earlier it tried to bring ascpects of the Showa movies to the mordan day and it sucked.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 2:16 PMGamera is an awesome kaiju, i love the first 4 films and the trilogy released in the 90's the best.
Gamera may be some what a second fiddle to godzilla but i love gamera for what he is. :D
