MemberMothra LarvaeJul-12-2014 5:18 PMFor me when It comes to modern film making I think CGI, cause I dont know If a guy in a suit crushing small buildings would go very well with todays standards, sry dont know what you call the small buildings.
But I really do enjoy watching Godzilla as a guy in a suit in movies, like seeing how they use to entertain audiences back in the day.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-12-2014 5:26 PMIt is a very hard question. I would I have to say I prefer the original suits because it kind of has a nostalgia factor and it is kind more "fun"to watch if you understand what I mean

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-12-2014 6:09 PMthis is a cool thread:) for me i like watching suitmation gojira movies. but the new gojira 2014 was perfect. but if it looks how zilla did in final wars NO:)

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-12-2014 7:42 PMDefinitely suitimation. The SFX in G2014 were awesome, but they could have been so much better if they had used their modern technology and big budget to make potentially the most lifelike practical effects ever, rather than just doing All CGI, All the Time like every other film these days (but I'm happy now that it looks like Jurassic World will use practical effects for the dinosaurs). As for future Toho films, I would not be happy if they decided to switch to using CGI monsters, since CGI with a low budget generally looks absolutely atrocious. Say what you will about the rubber suits and cardboard buildings of Japanese kaiju films, at least they look a million times better than Sharknado!

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-12-2014 8:04 PMI like them equally. Neither of them is better than the other. The suit is so classic yet so appreciated. its basically Godzilla's foundation and the work theat went into them..DAMN! The CGI Godzilla may not be classic(Im talking about 2014) due to its modernization, yet we were able to see Godzilla in a way we never have! Life-like. A real animal. They are both incredible to me.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-12-2014 11:10 PM100% CGI obviously!!!
The old Godzilla movies are excelent, for they time, but the new Godzilla is AWESOME!!! Is the BEST Godzilla and the more realistic.
So, the CGI Godzilla is top one now. Old Godzillas are good, but just image a Godzilla vs Destoroyah with CGI??? It will be out of this world!!! :o)

AdminGodzillaJul-13-2014 12:11 AMThe question is what kind of movie do you prefer to watch? People assume much of the Godzilla series is made like it is because of technological weaknesses, financial issues or because they're old movies. That's only partially true-- Or was...
Japanese suitmation and miniatures is not a hindrance, it's a style of filmmaking. (Typically refered to as 'tokusatsu'.) Although the Godzilla films are some of the most expensive movies made in Japan, (at least in the last decade) Toho, Daiei, Tsuburaya and Toei funnel money into that type of filmmaking because it's a traditional Japanese style.
I think some western fans need to look at the Japanese films as a different form of filmmaking, not inferior-- Realism isn't everything. Consider the style of Kill Bill, 300 and Sin City. None of those movies look realistic, but that's not the point. The same generally goes for Godzilla, Gamera, Ultraman...etc...
Personally, I prefer suitmation / miniatures because it's a very Japanese form of filmmaking. And, like it or not, Godzilla is Japanese-- It fits the franchise best.

King_of_Zombies
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-13-2014 12:36 AMCGI is better, the suitmation is from the 50´s, it make it look like a Power Rangers show.

Have you seen how releastic movments godzilla 2014 and zilla did? look at the suits.the animations are not too releastic.the 2007 CGI was also releastic.so i prefer CGI and i agree with King_Of_Zombies

Godzillaser
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-13-2014 4:29 AMAbsolutely CGI
Rubber suits have unnatural movement, but combining them with CGI would be a great idea too.

Sci-Fi King25
MemberGiganJul-13-2014 7:20 AMI'd prefer a combination for maximum realism.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-13-2014 7:39 AMi like suitmation because actor can react to it beacause it's actually there and for me its more fun
I don't know what to put here

KingKaijuGojira
MemberTitanosaurusJul-13-2014 12:12 PMI like both. CGI makes it look awesome and modern. The time it takes to get the suit and the minature buildings together make it seem like art and a throw-back to the classic movies.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-13-2014 12:33 PMTo everyone saying CGI is "better" or "more realistic": please, watch Aliens. I don't want to spoil too much, but, when you're watching, remember that the big alien at the end is depicted entirely with suitimation, animatronics, and puppetry.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-13-2014 12:39 PMLinkzilla ^^^^ very true dat
for me Ive always wanted to see a mixture of both, you know, like put some visual effects onto the suit guy and all or something

TheGMan123
MemberTitanosaurusJul-13-2014 12:58 PM@Linkzilla Yes, but remember that it's on a much smaller scale than the likes of monsters rampaging through cities. If the suitmation work is good andand the cameras and sets really make it feel like the suit-actor is really there, it can work wonders. Just look at the Gamera Heisei trilogy and some of its finer suitmation moments. That's probably the best suitmation can get in terms of making the scene feel like its actually happening.

MemberBaragonJul-14-2014 1:36 PMMe personally i have to go with suitmation because of its tradition in japan and earlier for the US. Cgi is ok, i mean jim rygiel did a really good job with godzilla don't get me wrong, but old school all the way. :)
