MemberMothra LarvaeApr-12-2014 2:21 PMpeople would still hate it. They hate the 1998 version with a furor beyond thought. I think Zilla is a pretty cool looking monster (i'l probably get 10 lashes just for that), but it seems there is no debating the haters. They have made up their minds and i doubt a seccond chance for Emerich would have changed that. Maybe if the film and creature weren't called Godzilla, then things would have been different.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-12-2014 3:12 PMIn a world where Godzilla '98 was considered good, we would not be having Godzilla '14, because no one would feel like there was a need for it. There probably would have been a Zilla sequel or two.
In its defense, the Zilla sequel sounded much more interesting than the original.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-12-2014 3:59 PMGametheory has a neat little video that could be relevent to this (search them on Youtube). The video, I believe, is related the Zelda Timeline and it being wrong.
Going off what Gametheory stated, I can speculate this;
1 Alt. Timeline) Everyone hated Gojira so much, that the movie was removed from all theatres and never shown again. (That was depressing as hell to type).
2 Alt. Timeline) Godzilla '98 was a success and sequels were developed. Godzilla's official design was changed to the iguana, and the original Godzilla was redubbed Zilla. (That was just as depressing as the other one.)
3 Atl. Timeline) Gojira was such a success that millions, if not billions, of dollars were put into producing more movies that were of such great quality, no movie could rival them. They, however, did not take the childish turn, and were incredibly realistic in their portrayal of the kaiju.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-12-2014 5:07 PMI dont really think if godzilla 1998 was so good they would change it to zilla,thats becuase they felt he took the god out of godzilla, I dont think theyd chang it all , also imagine that if that were so toho could have like it so much they either modeled the millenium series after him or just helped roland emmirch even more

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-12-2014 5:15 PM@KaijuStock- Dear me that is a lot of lag produced reposts. I wonder what happened to cause that?
As for my post, it is a speculated alternate timeline, so, anything really is truly possible, you see. In the end, it's a depressing little thought that could have been. For all we know, in an alternate timeline/universe/dimension, ToHo could have loved Godzilla '98.

AdminGodzillaApr-12-2014 9:35 PMI've always been curious about how the Heisei Godzilla and Gamera series would have turned out had Shusuke Kaneko directed Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth instead of Takeo Okawara. No doubt it would've been a far superior movie, but think of the ramifications.
Would Shusuke Kaneko have been asked back to direct the following Heisei Godzilla movies? What would vs. MechaGodzilla II, vs. SpaceGodzilla and vs. Destroyah been like? Who would've made the Gamera trilogy? Would he have still directed episodes of Ultraman Max? Or would he have done earlier Ultraman shows? Would he have found a way to get Higuchi on board with Godzilla? Or would he have used Kawikata? Someone else? Would Higuchi have made it as big as he has today? How would it have affected the Millennium series?
Kaneko's involvment in the Heisei series would've changed the course of the entire modern daikaiju genre.
