MemberMothra LarvaeJul-01-2013 11:33 AMI'm torn between Gojira (1954) and Godzilla (1984). Gojira is easily a better made film in every way, the suit's great, the cinmeatography and the black and white work wonderfully, the score is amazing. For me though, I just love the '84 film so much, it's my most favorite Godzilla look ever, and despite a lot of flaws it has, there are some great things to it for me. I love the way Godzilla is shot, the camera angles and such, the sets he's in, the roar is my most favorite, the music even has it's moments. All of hte music in '84 from the point where he starts leaving for Mount Mihara to the credits is some of my most favorite music in the franchise. For as much as the score falls short of Ifukube's mastery for the whole film up to that point, the last fiew pieces are worthy. One thing I find common for both is I hate the puppet/cybot shots, they look so different from the suit and not very good in both cases. The only time I'm ok with them is the first shot of the '54 puppet on Odo island, it's so classic and it doesn't look so bad there, but in the end sequences it looks so different from the suit.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-09-2013 6:10 AMMy all time favorite Godzilla movie is Godzilla: Final Wars. The G suit looks awesome, the soundtrack is magnificent, etc. The movie was just epic!

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-19-2013 10:38 AMYeah, this is a tough one! Um.....I think on of the first ones I ever saw as a kid, and I am 34 now...so.....was Godzilla vs Megalon. Love that one, but it's hard to pick a favorite. G vs Biollante is great too! As well as G vs Gigan!

Mecha-Godzilla
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-20-2013 5:42 PMI would either have to be Godzilla 2000, Godzilla: Final Wars or Tokyo Godzilla vs. DESTOROYAH....

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-23-2013 10:47 AMThe best Godzilla movies for me would be either the original Japanese version or GMK. The original has a unique eerie atmosphere that none of the other G films have been able to match. I think that filming it in black idea was a great idea, because it really enhances the eerie effect of the movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-05-2013 3:58 PM1) Godzilla '54
2) Tokyo S.O.S.
3) Godzilla vs. Destroyah
4) Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
5) Godzilla 1985 - my best friend and I endured the late showing of Sixteen Candles so we would have premium seating for the FREE midnight viewing of G-85 in the same theater.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-06-2013 3:20 PMso far im only up to 1968 Destroy all monsters But the king kong vs Godzilla was crazy I hated the ending though since it suggested that the stupid ape won however I will never forget Godzilla standing on his tail to drop a double kick on Kong that image is seared into my brain it was freaking INSANE!!!!!!!!

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-09-2013 8:00 PMA tough choice to make!
The 1954 Gojira is of course the greatest. A true classic of the monster genre worldwide, not just Japan.
But outside of that, I find I have to divide my favorites up by the decades they came out:
1950s - Gojira '54 of course! (apologies to Godzilla Raids Again)
1960s - Destroy All Monsters 1968 - a bit of a controversial choice, as most Godzilla scholars consider Mothra vs Godzilla the best of the 1960s. M vs G '64 is indeed a great movie, and it had more hands-on FX work done by the great Eiji Tsuburaya than DAM did. But ultimately, the big multi-monster throwdown in DAM thrills me more.
1970s - Terror of MechaGodzilla 1975 - I like the hippie weirdness of G vs Hedorah and the design of the monster Gigan has always been a favorite of mine, but the quality is most consistent in TOMG.
1980s - Return of Godzilla ('84 Japanese version, no offense to Raymond Burr)
1990s - Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla '93 - great Ifukube music score, a great revamp of MG.
2000s - Godzilla, Mothra, MechaGodzilla: Tokyo SOS - another somewhat controversial choice. I really want to like GMK 2001 best, and if Shusuke Kaneko had been free to do exactly what he wanted with the story and had more time to do so, I have no doubt it would be my favorite. But as it stands, I just really like that Kiryu MechaGodzilla design.

Godzilla vs. Gigan was directed by Jun Fukuda and it was released in 1972. The 1974 Godzilla movie was Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla and it was also directed by Fukuda. Hiroshi Ishikawa never directed a Godzilla movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-16-2013 9:11 PMGojira. I actually didn't see it until two years ago, and it's just devastating, otherwise it flip flops between Godzilla 84 and Godzilla vs Biollante.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-20-2013 12:09 PMBesides Gojira, it's probably Terror Of MechaGodzilla. Godzilla vs. Monster Zero is up there, too. I remember renting that movie from the local video store when I was about 4 or 5 and my older brother and I watched it in the dark one night, sitting on the floor in the living room. I don't know why but that memory always stuck out in my mind. Good times, good times.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-03-2013 9:48 PMMy fav Godzilla movie is Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster. I like the idea of it taken place on an island , being more adventurous instead of Godzilla and other monsters destroying cities all the time. Plus, Godzilla to me had a cool design look.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-22-2013 5:12 PMIt's a tie between the original Japanese version of the film, Gojira and Destroy All Monsters. I really love the theme to Destroy. I even have it on my iPod!

MemberBaragonSep-25-2013 3:24 AMEither the original or Godzilla vs Destroyah. I have to respect what the original did and how good it really is but I can't ever forget the chill I felt when Godzilla jr was dying and Miki says "this might be godzilla's last fight" as Godzilla fights Destroyah
