Thoughts On The Unmade Godzilla 1998 Sequel?

MemberAnguirusMay-21-2021 4:39 PMAs of Today, it's been 23 years since the ill-fated 1998 Tri-Star Godzilla was released. Because of this, one interesting topic that I have been thinking of was the unmade sequel.
Originally the 1998 film was going to be the first in a trilogy. This sequel was planned to start production shortly after the release of the film, with a script that had already been written. However, due to the negative reception of the film, the sequel was scrapped in favor of the better received animated series. The plot of this intended sequel has since been leaked online, so I was wondering what your thoughts on it are.

Personally I think that this script would have made an interesting movie. One that would of been slightly more faithful to the spirit of the original Toho Godzilla. But what do you think?
Interestingly, this script may have been an inspiration for the later Toho film, Godzilla vs Megaguirus, and it seems that it would have introduced a Tri-Star version of Minya/Minilla.

MemberBaragonMay-21-2021 4:50 PMOne on hand, I think that they should make another sequel for the enjoyment of the fans who liked it. On the other hand, they might get even more backlash from the fan base just like the prequel did.

Besides the animated series probably pulled off the basic tenants of this concept better than a full on, live-action production would have.

MemberAnguirusMay-21-2021 7:07 PMTrue, as interesting as the unmade sequel could cave been, I'm glad they made the animated series instead (I personally really like that series). Although there are ideas in this script that I would have like to seen, the scenes with Zilla caring for his babies (especially the Minya-like runt) could have been really cute, and the scenes with the insectoids attacking sounded pretty cool.
Still I'm glad that Toho was able to make the Millennium series. In a way we did get to see a similar concept to the insect swarm and the Queen B**** with the meganulon and Megaguirus.

MemberAnguirusMay-22-2021 9:45 AM"Queen B****" was just a nickname given to the insectoid queen in the script (possibly as a reference to Aliens?), I'm not sure if they would have actually called her that in the movie.
