Classic (Non Toho) Monsters in the MonsterVerse

Lately, I’ve been thinking of the potential future of the MonsterVerse and was wondering if they could expand the series beyond Godzilla and Kong. A lot of fans have been wanting to see more Toho monsters in this universe, and as much as I would love to see that, I think that they should include some other lesser known creatures as well. 

There are a lot of classic monsters that aren’t owned by Toho that could appear in this universe, like the monsters seen in the classic Ray Harryhausen films or in older cult classics. Warner Bros. and Legendary could easily get the rights to these monsters and feature them in the MonsterVerse.  Not only would this help to expand the mythology of the MonsterVerse, but it would be a great treat for classic monster movie fans and would help to reintroduce these older (and sadly often forgotten) monsters to a new audience. One of the best accomplishments that other cinematic universes like Marvel and DC have achieved is their ability to reintroduce more obscure characters and properties to a larger audience, I personally think that the MonsterVerse could do the same.

Even if they aren't the main focus of a movie, it would be pretty cool to see them. Seriously, how awesome would it be to see classic Ray Harryhausen creatures inhabiting the Hollow Earth and maybe even interacting with Kong. They could also reimagine creatures that aren’t as well loved. One of the biggest complaints that “The Giant Claw” (1957) received was that the monster was too goofy looking, however, if done right, they could easily reimagine this monster in a way that’s genuinely cool and terrifying. If Legendary and Warner Bros. do this, the series could evolve beyond Godzilla and Kong and potentially become the ultimate monster crossover.

The Kraken from Clash of the Titans (1981)

The cyclops from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958)

The Rhedosaurus from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953)

The “flying battleship” from The Giant Claw (1957)

The one-eyed centaur from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973)

The Roc from The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958)

The killer snail from The Monster That Challenged The World (1957)

The giant ants from Them! (1954)

Interestingly, Warner Bros. already own the rights to The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Them!, and Clash of the Titans…
