AdminGodzillaMar-16-2021 1:39 AMBrush of the God is an upcoming, indie kaiju tokusatsu featuring Keizo Murase's directorial debut.
Murase has been a kaiju suit sculptor since the 1950s. He sculpted the early 60s Godzilla suits, the early Gamera costumes, as well as Varan, Titanosaurus, Showa Gyaos and both the Showa and Heisei King Ghidorahs. He also worked on monsters for Ultraman Ace and South Korea's Yongary.
The movie is a modern fantasy about a boy chasing a rabbit that carries a brush that can bring anything into existence. The rabbit is on a mission to keep Yamato no Orochi from resurrecting.
Intending to use traditional tokusatsu, the movie will specialize in practical effects, puppetry, suitmation, miniatures and compositing to bring Orochi to life.

Obviously the movie is being made to showcase Murase's sculpting skills and miniature work, which is outstanding, especially considering the limited budget he's working with. The framing and attention to detail is pretty incredible for just test shots.
Can't wait for this one. With Howl Beyond the Fog, these indie kaiju tokusatsu have become an excellent place to find fresh takes on the genre with the special effects style that popularized it. Hopefully we see more material from it soon.

Murase worked on Howl Beyond the Fog as well. He sculpted Nebula and was the Director of Photography.

Indeed. Tsuburaya Productions and Toei certainly hasn't. I would love another tokusatsu styled Godzilla.
