I don't know what to put here
^It got a lot worse than what you have seen here. LOT worse.
@Mechani-Kong,
As much as that sounds cool to see the 54' original come back, He's not really going to. He is a dinosaur turned kaiju meaning he was "normal" like other lifeforms until the atomic bomb came along and ruined his life. Hence the quote from Dr. Yamane again from 1954. "This creature must have existed during the late Jurassic period and due to the repeative experiments of nuclear bombs, they must have drastically changed his natural habitat."
Again, shin stands for "true, new, and God."
True I'm guessing represents the old DaiKaiju of terror.
New obviously should stand for a new Godzilla.
And God I'm guessing stands for not only what made him monstrous but, a living nightmare.

Shin can stand for any of those, that's why most sites say it "roughly translates to True, God, New" so it depends what aspect of Shin they emphasize on.
and again, you don't know the plot. You can't say wether or not he's being ressurrected.
The director's have claimed numerous times that they want Shin to stand for all three of those words.
You're right. I know nothing about the plot but, the story.

Saitama,
Lets see... when the Mire-Goji design was released to fans in 1999, message boards of various types were on fire. Some liked it, a lot hated it. Many called it frog-zilla, declared the series officially dead, spammed other members' mailboxes, made death threats to those who liked it and wrote hate mail to Toho for it.
Shin and Legendary have had fairly tame conversations in comparison. The fandom will always be divided when a new design comes out and it will more or less be accepted only 5 years or so after the fact.
It's just part of the cycle when a new Godzilla film is on the horizon.
^Sending death threats to anyone is completely immature. I'd like to know how Toho handled that. Besides releasing the movie of course.
"The fandom will always be divided when a new design comes out." You hit the nail on the head there Gman2887. I don't hate the 2014 design. It had some problems but overall I actually like it. This new one, shin Godzilla, has grown on me so much already I've moved it up to my second favorite design. 1991 may never be topped in terms of badass even though it's a modified version of 89 which is my third favorite design now since the release of Shin Godzilla.
The only one I'll ever dislike is that 98 piece of iguana trash.

Huge-Ben
Very unconvincing article for me. New can mean "new era" or "new beginning" while "True" still meaning the return of the true Godzilla from 1954. "New" meaning a literal new Godzilla is a little on the nose, especially since it looks so much like the 1954 one with tweaks, in fact this quote makes me more suspicious
"It's meant to declare the return of the true Godzilla—The fearful god represented in the 1954 original"
Now if they just admitted this is a straight up remake, I'd be convinced it's a new Godzilla (obviously), but with the possibility that this is still a movie with the 1954 original in canon, I find it odd that they went so far out of their way to make it look like the 1954 Godzilla. I'll remain suspicious until proven otherwise. That's why I want to wait until there's more info or a trailer.
The director has said "Shin" means all three of the basic translations--This was some of the first information we got from the movie after it started shooting. However to what capacity those meanings will be observed is in the air.
It could very well mean a literal "new" Godzilla as the title has been used plenty of times before in that same way: Shin Kamen Rider (or Kamen Rider Shin), Shin Ultraman (now called Ultraman Jack) and so on.
Things have been much worse, rancor-wise, in the fandom over designs, films themsleves, or which series is better: Showa, Heisei or Millennium. I think it helps that we have two apparently distinct approaches to Godzilla being produced at the same time. This is great, as it has more variety for more tastes. I really don't see the point in runnign down people's personal choices regarding suits or even films. You like what you like. It's the generalized, unqualified pronouncements that I take issue with.
I like the Shin-Goji-at least what I've seen ot it-and look forward to seeing the suit and some footage. But, then again, that would be the case if the design resembled the Bio-Goji (which I love, by the way). My overall impression is that what we've seen so far may be indicative of the atmosphere and feel of the film itself: very dark, with instances of horror, without being gratuitous, but with a message of hope and eventual triumph at the same time. He's not directing Shin Gojira, but Shusuke Kaneko said in an interview, that as a filmmaker, he wants to give the audience a sense of hope. As dark as the next Toho-produced Godzilla film may be, I'm pretty sure they see the logic in this. I mean the purpose behind something carthartic is to purge oneself of the fears and emerge stronger as a result. Shin Gojira could facilitate this on a national and cultural level, and, entertain at the same time.
I just hope it's really, really well written with an inspiring and bold message, driven home by passionate, moving performances, God willing.
