MemberBaragonNov-09-2014 11:14 AMHey there, kaiju fans!
In case you are unaware, the incredible documentary Kaiju Gaiden, which will focus on independently produced “lost” kaiju films (such as Atragon 2, Daimajin 4, Matango 2, Legendary Beast Wolfman vs Godzilla, and Gamera 4: Truth), has been fully funded via Kickstarter! To the readers on this site who contributed, your contributions have allowed this incredible film to happen, and you have played a significant part in the resurgence of kaiju eiga in Japan!
But it could be even better than that…
The Kickstarter is still live until this Wednesday, and donations are still being accepted! But if the project is already funded, why should you still donate? Well, for several very good reasons… not only do the creators have stretch goals (including a two year long web series of more material if they hit $3500), but more money will give the creators, and us, an incredible opportunity…
Should enough money be raised, the creators of Kaiju Gaiden intend to… drumroll please… INCLUDE SOME OF THE ACTUAL FILMS AS BONUS FEATURES ON THE DVD/BLU-RAY DISKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check out this interview Toho Kingdom conducted with the documentary’s director David Hall, in which he talks about the project and announces the plans to include these lost kaiju films on the disk:
Interview with David Hall (2014)
Here is a significant snippet from the interview:
Driscoll: Okay, the biggest question that everyone really cares about: Will you include any of the films in the documentary? Is there any chance we can get to see Gamera 4: Truth released with the documentary?
Hall: here will be many clips in the documentary, as well as an amazing story that we now have captured for all fans! For the documentary's release, I can tell you that certain movies will be released as special features. I'll announce one for now: The full film, ZERAN, by Director Masahiko Katto, will be available as a bonus feature. It is a fantastic film that boasts some amazing shots and incredibly detailed miniatures. Hmm, how should I say this without giving too much more away... I can tell you there will be more chances to see GAMERA 4: TRUTH for sure!
HOLYCRAPHOLYCRAPHOLYCRAPHOLYCRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zeran is also known as Rodan 2, and if enough extra money is raised, it won’t be alone on the disk! Can you imagine if Gamera 4 was released with this documentary… O_O
Here’s the best part… a donation to the Kickstarter of only 25$ will get you the DVD as a reward! If each of us put up only $25 a person, they’d get a load of money!
If you have not donated to this project, please consider doing so if you are able. It will be your chance to contribute to the biggest thing to happen to the Kaiju Eiga genre in over a decade!

So will you/did you donate? What lost film would you like to see on the disk? Let the discussion begin!

MemberBaragonNov-10-2014 3:48 PMWell, I'm not sure about space, but at least FOUR lost Godzilla films will be featured in this documentary!!!!
They are the now famous Legendary Beast Wolfman vs Godzilla (which I have seen a load of footage of, and... yeah, its TOHO good. O_O), Godzilla vs Seadora (a Katto Production's film), Godzilla vs Death Guilas (Shinpei Hayshiya's first film before Gamera 4, Reigo, and Raiga), and Rabbitman vs Godzilla (a parody of Wolfman vs Godzilla)! With more funds, these films could be bonus features on the disk!
Remember, a pledge of only $25 gets you the DVD reserved!

AdminGodzillaNov-10-2014 9:03 PMI just read Robert Scott Field was helping with the shooting schedule of this project. Now that is cool. What a guy. Glad he's still enthusiastic about the fanbase after 23 years.
