Halloween is coming up incredibly fast, and lately, Television may not have what you're looking for in terms of monster thrills, and perhaps you may not know how you want... to spend your festive evening.
Gormaru Island has you covered with several ideas and suggestions on how to make your holiday successful and fun!
When it comes to celebrating Halloween aside from the costume parties and trick or treat, when it comes down to it, enjoying films that can be associated with the holiday are what really blazes the day! Monster movies, Sci-Fi films, both horror and campy flicks, these genres make the holiday for us! Along with having great times with your friends, or having a personal day for yourself, Halloween can never truly be enjoyed without them
Craving a Giant Monster Movie Night? Pick out some old classics!!
If you're craving a monster movie night, you have a large vault to choose from. Gormaru Island suggests the following films that can spur a wonderful evening:
1. One Million Years B.C: Expecting a kaiju film to being first didn't you? Admit it! Ahem. One Million Years B.C stems from the works of Ray Harryhausen, where both humanity and dinosaurs exist within the same age(incorrectly) and fight for survival. Leading is the lushes sex appeal of a blond hair cave-women(Raquel Welch), and the brutal clashes of tyrant lizards ravaging the land. We recommend this because you can NEVER go wrong with a classic that showcases the animated passion of Harryhausen. And seeing his works come to life within a colorful cinematic adventure is glorious despite the flaws that the film has. If you're not in the mood for something gritty like Gojira, then tag this in! -STEGZ
2. Godzilla vs. Monster Zero/Invasion of the Astro Monster:
If you're in the mood for intergalactic Sci-fi dipping, and some monstrous Godzilla action, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero is the film to enjoy! With a firm cast of likeable characters, proper balance of Sci-Fi elements that evenly shine alongside intense kaiju battles and rampages, you can never go wrong with this classic. It has the best of both worlds!! And if you don't do it, your movie night won't be worth a hill of beans you hear!! God I love Nick Adams! -Gormaru
3. Mothra vs. Godzilla: A fan favorite, and another fantastic Godzilla classic. A giant monster movie that not only showcases the destruction ravages of Godzilla, but returns the powerful Mothra back to the screen in what will go down as their first iconic showdown in Toho history. Boosted by memorable and likeable characters, tons of action, firm pacing, and a well executed film. And you have a Godzilla movie that is an absolute must-have for any kaiju fan aiming to rampage this Halloween! -Donnie
4. 20 Million Miles To Earth: You can't enjoy Halloween without at least one main alien film, much less a Ray Harryhausen classic in the lineup! And while the Ymir barely qualifies as a Giant Monster, however with it increasing in size from Earth's atmosphere, it could have grown large enough to become one. Anywho! The film is really centered on the monster, and while the plot isn't anything ground breaking, to witness the development of the Ymir and its conflict with humanity is fascinating and full of cinematic flare. Its pacing is fairly quick but well managed, so don't worry about the movie taking its time on the humans, or one scene in entirely. It knows when to get back to Harryhausen's magic when it is called for -Soundwave
Honorable Recommendations: Gojira, Godzilla King of the Monsters, Rodan, War of the Gargantuans, It Came From Beneath the Sea, and The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. Others: King Kong vs. Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, Gamera, The Blob, and Frankenstein Conquers the World!!
Continuing onto Part 2! (Dining Out! Enjoying Your Night! Friends or Yourself!)
