MemberMothra LarvaeOct-06-2014 1:24 PMOk, we are gonna do this fast.
Everbody was super excited because Bryan Cranston was in the movie (and Godzilla, but more for "Heisenberg") and when the movie finally was launched...
"omg, the movie sucked, they kill the character of Bryan in the first 30 minutes", "We wanted Heisenberg, not bored Kick-Ass", "lololol Godzilla and Heisenberg appears in the movie for like 10 seconds, lololol, movie sucked", etc.
Why all that love for Bryan Cranston?, I understand, he was a awesome in Breaking Bad, but here is not the protagonist, the name of the movie is "Godzilla", no "Godzilla vs Heisenberg".
The character of Bryan, Joe, is only there to explain various parts of the plot and later die, why so many love to the character? (not only because he is Bryan Cranston).

MemberBaragonOct-06-2014 2:00 PMBryan cranston was hands down far better than aaron taylor johnson. Ford felt dead inside as a character to me.

AdminGodzillaOct-06-2014 2:25 PMI think the troubling thing is that Cranston's character, Joe, is introduced as the main character in the prologue of the movie. He also has a more interesting arc than Ford. Joe is obsessed with trying to figure out what killed his wife. It has driven him to the edge of depression and persistence. He's there to search for the truth and he feels in his bones that his wife's death wasn't an accident.
Honestly, it's a far more compelling story arc that Ford's which is a very standard journeyman role. Ford doesn't carry the internal drama that Joe had, he's just trying to get home to his family. Although there's some poetic justice to Ford killing / destroying the nest (family) of the creatures that killed his parents, he never bears any notable ill-will or anger towards the MUTO. He simply goes through the motions to get home.
As such Joe would have made an excellent main character to carry the movie, or at least an interesting supporting character to keep the drama afloat while the monsters were offscreen.
Plus, Cranston is simply a mega-presence in the film. He's such a talented actor that even if his character wasn't very interesting he would have still found a way to keep the audience engaged with his performance. He's just that good.

MemberMothra LarvaeOct-06-2014 3:00 PMCranston is better developed in 30 minutes than Ford in the whole movie, he is a better actor, he is more recognizable for Malcome and Braking Bad, he whas targeted and marketed as the main actor and so on and so on, id wish ford died insted of cranston that would give him more motivation

MemberGodzillaOct-06-2014 4:26 PMDARKCHIEF - What a very interesting question you've asked! Hmm, in the long run, I'd have to say that Joe Brody's character simply had more depth and feeling than Ford's. He was the individual with whom we were first introduced at the beginning of the film, and we felt a great deal of his pain and determination - the sort of set-up usually presented for primary protagonists. All in all, I'd say most people were simply let down a bit when the charceter to whom they initially became attached was (some believe arbitrarily) killed. Of course, this is simply my assessment of the situation - take it with a grain of salt. :)

MemberMothra LarvaeOct-06-2014 5:59 PMJoe as more connected to the monsters than Ford was. He knew a lot, and he suffered a lot. I would have loved to see him react to seeing Godzilla.

MemberMothra LarvaeOct-06-2014 9:04 PMI seriously dont get it either. They only want Joe because of Heisenburger, no, they ONLY want Heisenburger because of Heisenburger(If that makes any sense).
But i suppose i must be fair here-The characters written, especially Ford, was very great. The characters written INTO the movie was bad.
Its kinda tragic how Ford is one of the best wirtten characters on paper, but the way he is written into the script doesnt work. He shows none of the great traits his character was written with.

MemberMothra LarvaeOct-08-2014 6:42 PMFords character was simply written to move the story from place to place, Joe was written for an emotional response. The script was talented enough to combine the two. I could have cared less for Ford, his wife or his child.
