MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2014 4:37 PMSo I have been browsing the interwebs and whatnot, and it seems like a lot of people are saying Godzilla looks darker on Digital copy/ Blue Ray. For anyone who has the Digital copy can you tell me if this is true?

AdminGodzillaSep-09-2014 4:40 PMThis has been discussed elsewhere, but there's was a comparison between the digital copy and Bluray editions. The digital copy is extremely dark whereas the Bluray is quite light-- Maybe too light.
One thing is for certain, the digital copy is not represenative of what the Bluray will look like.
I suspect this will be discussed at great length in the DVD/Bluray thread: http://www.godzilla-movies.com/community/forums/topic/31981&page=14

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2014 4:51 PMMy friend rented the Blu-Ray and said it was crazy dark. You couldn't see Godzilla until he used his atomic breath.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2014 4:51 PMWell that's disapoiting. Now I'm not sure if I should get the digital copy in HD, or the DVD in SD since I have no way to play Bueray (Heh, that Rhymed)

AdminGodzillaSep-09-2014 5:03 PMFrom High Def Digest's Review of the Disc.
"There is one potential issue, a thing our readers might be arguing about for some time. Overall light levels. Key sequences in Hawaii and San Francisco are exceptionally dark. I don't know how it will look in 3D Blu-ray, but those with improperly calibrated displays, or those with displays prone to reflecting too much light, might mistake the darkness for bad image quality. However, it seems like an intentional choice to me (one of the film's rules is that the MUTOs knock out power with natural EMPs), but could be a problem for some viewers in certain lighting conditions. I started watching during the late afternoon on my Panny plasma, but had to wait until after dark to finish the climax."
I'd start playing with your TV settings.

I don't understand what you're trying to say there. There is no such thing as HD Bluray and Regular Bluray. Bluray is HD.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2014 5:03 PMI think it's fairly obvious some people haven't changed the settings on their TV or the brightness on their PC.
Keeping the brightness the same right out of the box will usually result in darkness and not being able to see crap.
I've heard of people who have the digital copy and see the movie exactly like it is in the trailers.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-09-2014 8:56 PMI was hoping this wouldn't be an issue with the DVD and Blu-Ray releases, though I half expected it for the digital copy. The reason is that at my university, they had a public showing of Godzilla about two weeks ago. I was of course very excited, but when they showed the actual movie it was so incredibly dark that no one could see anything except when there was an explosion or when Godzilla fired his atomic breath. The copy of the film they used was a digital copy, so I'm assuming this issue is present on the digital copies I am seeing people complain about.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-10-2014 9:12 AMThis isn't about the DVD or Blue-Ray, but I have noticed that the standard HD YouTube videos that were relseased are a lot brighter than what I saw in the theater.
I couldn't see any details of Godzilla during the final fight, it was mostly a silhouette, but in the videos I could little details; like Godzilla taking a big inhale before the atomic breath.

MemberMothra LarvaeSep-10-2014 12:58 PM@Duratok - How's that possible? Was he able to some how get an advanced copy?
Sounds like I'm gonna have to play around with the brightness a little. My TVs already slightly bright so hopefully not too much.
