Now that we know what gareth is doing. What do you think Godzilla 2's release date will be?

MemberGiganJul-28-2014 6:51 PMIm set on 2017. Gareth can do it. Star wars is just a spin off, its not a full major film that takes 5 years to make. Star wars is gonna come out 2016, Production ends on june or july 2015 since it starts filming in november. Gareth becomes more of a supervisor when it comes to the End production part so he probably will start Godzilla 2 in october 2015. The script or atleast the ideas of Godzilla 2 are already being written, so Gareth is most likely gonna walk right in into filming. Filming takes atleast 10 months so filming begins in october ends in november, End production takes about 6-7 months, Film gets released October or november 2017 bam we got Godzilla 2 xD.
Good grief.

MemberGiganJul-28-2014 6:57 PMNo july 2018 is possible but its not a good date. 2017 is to me the most plausible since after the facts i stated earlier it can definitely happen.
Good grief.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-28-2014 7:12 PMThe way I see it gareth does the Star Wars spin off takes pre production is ether in the works now or starting some time early 2015 production goes in the work say late 2015 and ends around early to mid 2016. Near the end of post production on the Star Wars movie gareth then starts the the pre production of godzilla 2 then production in 2017 and finally we see it in 2018

AdminGodzillaJul-28-2014 10:55 PM2017 isn't impossible, but 2018 is more realistic, especially if we want a higher quality movie out of it. But I think there are other factors at work here than time which will push Godzilla 2 to 2018:
Star Wars doesn't start shooting until 2015 in London. When in 2015? We don't know yet. That will ultimately decide how likely a 2017 Godzilla 2 release is.
Honestly, I would rather wait an extra year for a more polished product than rush this thing out. And it seems unlikely Legendary would put Godzilla 2 in competition with its very own Pacific Rim 2 that same summer. (And Godzilla 2 will be a summer movie, like most tentpole flicks. No way is Legendary shipping this movie out while kids are in school.)
Also here's another strike against Godzilla 2: Max Borenstein is writing Skull Island. Skull Island is currently due in theaters November 2016. That takes priority over Godzilla 2 since it has a set release date. Borenstein will most likely be spending much of his time working on Skull Island for the rest of the year instead of the Godzilla 2 screenplay. Which makes sense as Edwards is busy with Star Wars anyway.

MemberBaragonJul-29-2014 1:04 AMYeah just because the star wars movie is done doesn't mean Edwards is going to jump right into a new Godzilla. Remember all the fan meets, and going around the world promoting he did for Godzilla. He's going to do that for star wars too. So star wars comes out in 2016, he spends months promoting it during and after it comes out then he jumps into Godzilla. That means best case scenario he jumps into godzilla around summer 2016, and you think the movie's going to come out 2017? No 2018 is the most likely scenario, if they don't literally try to rush through everything as fast as possible the movie isn't coming out in 2017.

MemberGiganAug-13-2014 6:18 PMHere is the reason it will be released in 2017. This is my opinion, 2018 people will sort of forget it and not be as hyped for it! 2016 is way to early. 2017 is 3 years, sdcc will release a trailer in this coming year getting fans even more hyped! 2017 is the most probable date when you think about it!
Good grief.

AdminGodzillaAug-13-2014 6:43 PMWhen you think about it, 2017 is not a likely date. I think you're ignoring a lot of hurdles that has for the sake of hope and excitment:
- Both Star Trek and Avatar had/will have sequels with a 4+ year gap.
- Max Borenstein isn't writing the script to Godzilla 2 right now. He's working on Skull Island. Meaning he probably won't even start on a script for Godzilla 2 until 2016.
- Consider another Legendary monster movie's production schedule: Guillermo del Toro said he will be taking 9 months for pre-production. Shooting will begin in November, 2015. And then he said it will have a long year of post-production. That is roughly a 24-25 month period of making a single movie. It will be the same amount of time Edwards needs to make Godzilla 2-- Or at least a good one.
- Star Wars may be a "side story, but it will still have a substantial budget and enough clout to bring in an audience. Even if it doesn't have a full year of post-production, it will be close to that amount of time. In addition to that, Edwards will have to travel the world for various premieres and promote the new Star Wars just like he did Godzilla. That's no walk in the park. It takes a lot of time and energy. It's unlikely he'll get a lot of work done on Godzilla during that time.
- Even if Edwards didn't have to worry about touring, Star Wars post-production wouldn't end until the end of 2015/early 2016. That would give Edwards barely over a year to pull pre-production, production and post production. It's just a little over half the time del Toro has for Pacific Rim 2. Meaning Godzilla 2 would be rushed for a 2017 summer release. (No way Legendary would put a tentpole like Godzilla 2 in the fall. Wouldn't happen.) Plus, as I said, Borenstein most likely won't have a finished script until sometime in 2016.
- Legendary is already releasing Pacific Rim 2 in 2017. Two massive budget giant monster movies in one year is unlikely for Legendary as they'll want to spread their monster movies apart. Plus, if they've already announced one 2017 movie, they would have announced another by now as well.
Ugh... a wall of text. Gross...
