Godzilla finally returns to its' home, Japan

I'm not expecting a lot from Japan at this point.

In addition to the kaiju genre being fairly dead in its home country, I don't think they ever recovered from the overexposure of Godzilla 10 years ago. Furthermore, the movie has been out for months allowing plenty of bootlegs time to circulate. And a Studio Ghibli film was recently released which are always boxoffice gold in Japan.

In any case I'm more interested in how the Japanese historians and fans compare it with the original movies. Particularly those still living from the Golden Age.

Gotta agree with Gman here, Godzilla's fanbase has definitely moved out of Japan, and the movie got there way too late.

I wonder if there will be more scenes shown of the movie in japan.

Plus I hope Godzilla finally gets his 500M at the Box Office.

Worth noting for those interested. The final wars rating surprises me, had no idea it was hated like that.                    

Final Wars was a colassal flop in Japan and is typically cited by critics as one of the worst Godzilla films. The user rating doesn't shock me.

FW is a hot mess! JMHO.

Hey guys, below here is a link that holds a comment on the new 2014 film made by a 28 year old Japanese fan who grew up on Godzilla as well as their view's on the evolution.

This guy's comment makes me happy that, even though I had no part in making this movie, I know we got it right this time. Lets hope for more comments soon.

Brief but critical of the film in practically the same way as every other critical review. I'm not surprised. Still nice to have a positive comment from a Japanese fan from the link I posted in my last post, let's hope for more like that.
