MemberMothra LarvaeJul-19-2014 12:17 PMWhy didn't Godzilla 2014 retaliate against the military when he was shot? In the old series, he always destroy them whenever he get attacked by the military.

MemberTitanosaurusJul-19-2014 2:13 PMWell the only reason Godzilla made his presence known to the world (again, remember 1954) was to destroy the Mutos and restore Nature's balance. He didn't have time to waste squashing the Military.

If you're gonna use that logic it was convenient for the plot for:
- Ford to be in the military
- the Mutos to be a natural enemy to Godzilla
- the Mutos needing to feed off of radiation
- Ford and his dad to be picked up by Monarch for questioning.
and heck...
- Godzilla even existing in the first place.
If we're gonna take apart a film for something being "convenient to the plot" it has to be obvious, distracting, and even borderline stupid. Like:
- Ford's family is still in San Fransisco (the inevitable battleground for a chaotic monster and nuke war) because Ford thinks the best thing to do to assure their safety is for them to wait for him.
............wait a minute.....

MemberBaragonJul-19-2014 3:14 PMThere's a big difference between those things and him ignoring the military. For instance the fact he will apparently track the mutos to the ends of the world because they're "disrupting nature's balance" but humans who have done so much more than anything we've seen the mutos do are left alone, even when they go out of their way to attack him.
So yes him getting attacked by a thing that is also disrupting balance to the point he shows at least some recoil from their attack but leaving without doing anything is convenience.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-19-2014 3:25 PMThere was a scene where Godzilla fought off the military but it got cut out. Also, even if Godzilla did attack the military it wouldn't have changed anything; just add a really cool action scene. It's not even really convenient for the plot's sake if it doesn't hinge upon the plot anyway.

MemberBaragonJul-19-2014 3:51 PMGetting cut out= not being there. The person asked why he didn't fight him in the end product and it was simply for the convenience of the story that he did a highly unlikely thing for a giant monster and walked away rather than turn and fight, giving more evidence toward the "hero" term heading the news used at the end, which wouldn't have held as much if he had destroyed the military prior to that fight.

MemberGiganJul-19-2014 4:42 PMMany reasons why he didnt. Ima give you 3. Godzilla 2014 doesnt give a damn about ants, He doesnt give a damn about what we think we are doing to him, And he overall doesnt give a damn about anything humans try to pull. Godzilla 2014's only purpose was to restore the balance, Humans arent a threat to his territory and arent considered an enemy to him! The mutos are because if they had a child Godzilla might not be able to stop them all. But humans have a baby Sheesh, who cares. Godzilla 2014 didnt attack the millitary cause he probably didnt even notice them, Or he jsut didnt feel there convention weaponrys bullets!
Good grief.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-19-2014 5:40 PMI believe they were trying too hard to make Godzilla the hero, so no military destruction and he practically watches his step to not knock over any buildings. Gareth kept saying anti hero but that was a lie. I mean at the end people are actually applauding him and declaring him the savior of the city. The sequel would do well to pull a Godzilla Raids Again or Megaguirus where he defeats the enemy THEN the movie continues to follow Godzilla as he causes destruction.

MemberTitanosaurusJul-19-2014 5:42 PMNah, I'd say in the end we have to understand he's not here to simply destroy, but also respect that he isn't simply our saviour either. I hope the next movie highlights that point more.

MemberAnguirusJul-20-2014 1:00 AMGodzilla didnt attack the military because he had no need to and he is smart too, he knew there were good civilians and people around that werent irritating him so thats why he didnt want to harm the military and soldiers in fear of harming the "innocents". Just my opinion
