MemberGiganJul-17-2014 7:51 PMI thought it should be a thread since a lot of people are popping up saying they didnt like Godzilla 2014, But then there are those who pop up saying they do. Say you like Godzilla 2014 if you do, and say you dont if you dont. and voice your reasoning why for both reasons please :).
Good grief.

MemberAnguirusJul-17-2014 8:07 PMI loved Godzilla 2014, it was the third Godzilla movie watched (GMK, G vs Destroyah), heres why???
1. Special Effects were great
2. Had a good story although acting in some places was terrible
3. Godzilla was realistic and powerful at the same time.
It also has its cons
1. Terrible acting in some places
2. Should have involved Tokyo more
3. Godzilla shouldnt have gills.
Anyway I loved it, and I agree with Gman here, some people overpoeer G14 because he is new but none the less he is still on of the most powerful incarnations yet and likely the most durable although some Godzillas seem to be able to tank an asteroid landing next to them.
Bottom line: Great Movie, 9/10 (Thats my opinion)

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 8:53 PMThe novelization of the 2014 Godzilla was great! That's what got me into the story/universe. Had I only seen the movie and never read the book... I'd probably wouldn't be a fan. See the movie (although had great CGI effects) really cut out or shortened the human element/story which killed the chance to really get to know the human characters.
The design for the 2014 Godzilla was good, gill and all. I was a little dissapointed that the movie didn't try to make Godzilla a realistic or possible monster... only made the original Gojira form a more realistic shape (for example, those legs and gills).

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 8:56 PMIt had a great story, awesome special effects, and one of my favortie soundtracks of all time. My only issues are not enough Godzilla (I mean, 5 more minutes of the climax. I don't want a Transformers movie.) and the way they advertised it. The marketing and finished product are two different things. Other than that I'm fine! (well, Ford's son could've had more emotion.)
A-
But I'm pretty sure this topic has been done before

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 9:02 PM@NERDYBANDGEEKS: I felt that Godzilla had more appearances in the novelization than the movie. Still I agree, more appearances would have been nice.

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-17-2014 9:25 PMI like everything of it, except for the cliches. I noticed three:
1. Someone saying "Its not the end of the world", when the movie is about the end of the world.
2. the whistling teapot in a tense moment.
3. dog in danger.
everything else was awesome.

MemberBaragonJul-17-2014 9:28 PMAre you talking about the movie or the godzilla in the movie? Either way they're both pretty middle of the pack in terms of the series.
Good
The movie had pretty good cinematography that looked really good at times
Bryan Cranston's character was very well done
Godzilla's design was nice for a cgi version.
Story was pretty similar to Gamera Guardian of the Universe so depending how you see this it could be a pro or con
The first act was very well done and everything leading into and during cranston's death had me very interested
I'm just going to include this as personally the flying muto in the janjira plant was probably my favorite part of the movie and it was done very well at every point. Literally if whole movie was like that I would have almost no complaints.
Bad
Elle Brody is completely useless, just a destination point. I never cared about this character, it seemed like she was just there as a plot device to get Ford to go see his father then act as a destination, that's it. She never does anything, most of her scenes are her on the phone.
Aaron Taylor Johnson is pretty emotionless and while he worked well during the scenes with Bryan Cranston after his death I really didn't care for ATJ's character
Cut aways went very overboard for no real reason
Advertisements and interviews were very misleading to the finished product
The second act is pretty bad. Nothing really happens besides the introduction of Godzilla and then that gets cutaway
The final fight is very entertaining when you saw the monsters but it seemed as though Gareth felt we needed to still see what Ford was doing the whole time.
Ken Watanabe's character is thrown to the side to the point he's just there to give exposition.

Something Real
MemberGodzillaJul-17-2014 10:28 PMGORILLAGODZILLA77897 - I very much enjoyed Godzilla 2014's design. I felt he had a certain presence that made him a powerful and intimidating presence within the bounds of the film. His physical apperance is exceptional in my opinion! I absolutely loved the sense of weight and utter power he exuded on the screen! :)

MemberMothra LarvaeJul-18-2014 3:55 PM^^^^ Ive watched it, I love angry joe and never knew he was a g fan, and I totally agree with him.
I guess I can stop wondering why people liked that new movie now, since everyone is too different from eachother, which is called opinions I know, but yeah for the movie itself, whatever that movie was, it was a fine movie.
But to look at this movie as a Godzilla movie, I just cant stand to accept this movie at all to be a godzilla film. I dont have time right now to explain why and all, but just to give my simple answer:
I dont
