Should G have been the hero?

Does anyone else feel like Godzilla wasn't bad ass enough in the newest movie? The kill scenes of the MUTOs were amazing but besides that Godzilla got slapped around like a bitch. He even screamed in pain a few times!  After Godzilla killed the MUTOs I was ready for some more Godzilla vs human action but instead G goes to sleep, wakes up the next day and peacefully leaves like the first person who wakes up after a drunken party that got out of hand.

I know its been over a month since Godzilla got released but I had to get this off my chest after watching Gareth Edwards'  "Monsters" tonight and being dissappointed because the movie had so much potential but lacked one key component... enough monsters.

In the 2014 film, Godzilla where an anti-hero, and thats the best way of potraying him in my opinions. He isnt here to save us, but he isnt here to destroy us either. And for the MUTO fight, i thought it was great. You could easily see how much Godzilla overpowered them, in a 1v1 fight. But when both of the MUTO attacked him, thats where it started to go downhill.

Godzilla is a powerhouse but he cant focus on two enemies at the same time, and only because Ford caused a distraction(Not intentionally, he isnt helping him!) did Godzilla manage to dominate the fight.

As for the ending, it was made to create a satisfiying ending. Of course Godzilla just retreats now that his job is done.

And finally...You thought "Monsters" lacked monsters, huh? I think you may have missed a very important point in the movie.

You may disagree with me, but take all those thing into consideration.

Godzilla having a heroic role is fine with me. However having a heroic role after being advertised and talked about as our retribution is not fine. Advertising Godzilla as the role he took may not have drawn the masses as much, but there also wouldn't have been the disappointment of realizing halfway through the movie that Godzilla was never going to be even slightly antagonistic, just indifferent even when being shot at.

As for the muto fight. It could have been more one sided, however then it's wouldn't have been as fun to watch Godzilla destroy the weaker opponents. Every Godzilla movie has brought Godzilla down to his opponent's level, or the situation that's needed. One minute he can be fighting a space dragon that destroys worlds the next he's struggling against a giant lobster so I didn't really have a problem with him having a back and forth with the mutos, I thought it made the fight more entertaining

Godzilla being a hero or villain is something of a preference that fans are either going to rejoice in or turn their nose up at. It's not a flaw or mistake, simply a direction the decided to go in.

I for one loved it. It wasn't exactly expected, but I suppose I didn't really know what I wanted. Besides the whole Godzilla as a walking tornado thing has been done enough. I'm glad they went a different direction with the whole man-versus-nature thing.

Based on all the trailers I did except G to be more of an antagonist but I really liked how he was depicted as a force of nature. I'm sure I'll enjoy the film the second time I watch. Hopefully the sequals are darker with more destruction.

SPOIlER ALERT for Monsters

I get it that the end of the movie was the beginning of the opening scene and the monsters sex scene was moving and beautiful. I just expected a greater climate.
