To early to tell, the TOHO execs loved it but the fans are another story im a hardcore fan and i even had mixed feelings about it.
ALEXTHEBURGER - I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the peoples of Japan will very much enjoy Edwards' Godzilla! :)
Weren't they the crowd that complained about G being fat?
And they didn't like pacific rim that much.
I understand though, Japan created the genre. They will be hard to please.
The "Godzilla's too fat" comments were blown out of proportion by the media. And Pacific Rim arguably had worse advertising in Japan than it did here.
If Japan doesn't like it will be because of the fatigue the genre has felt since the early 2000s. The fact is it's a dying genre in part because of the influx of American films that get distributed there and because the genre has refused to go on hiatus decades after decades.
Otherwise opinions will probably be similar as they are everywhere else: Good film, but with some glaring problems. Which pretty much represents the Godzilla series since 1991, barring very few exceptions.
I don't know hard to say. My mom's japanese friend went on the base theater with me and my family to see gojira 2014 and she loved it but yeah if theres anything I know about the japanese....there very picky.
Also I live in Japan if you didn't know by now.
and im the king of ranters
Gojira 2014,
No, but you're becoming the king of spammers with the rant baiting. I don't recommend keeping it up. Thanks.
I think they'll have the same feelings most countries did, a good movie but disappointed they didn't get what was advertised. Unless Japan had different advertisements and interviews than the rest of the world.
Japan has a similar ad compaign that China did-- introducing the MUTO threat and then using Godzilla as the "dark" foil to them.
They might be slightly more receptive to the movie then. China hasn't had the movie for very long so I don't think it's had it's free fall box office wise like in the rest of the world.
I feel like if it was advertised the way it should have in in the first place, it wouldn't have as many bad reviews
