2014 Godzilla and Muto intelligence Question

To me, Godzilla would be on the border of semi-sentient and sentient. He (at least in the movie) showed quite some intellegence while fighting.

The MUTOs for me seemed just plain animalistic. They acted only out of instinct. They showed some strategy in fighting, but even some basic animals do. If I had to rate it, I'd say an intellegent animal. Godzilla seemed more like an intellegent species, like a dragon.

@NERDYBANDGEEKS: You make a good point, the MUTOs did seem to act on instinct, yet did show some impressive intelligence. Many real world animals are the "intelligent animals" (like the raptors from the dinosaur times for example, or primates/dolphins of today).

So for Godzilla to be that intelligent, it's assumed the rest of his species is around the same level. Would one Godzilla be able to "talk" to another?

not 'talk' in the sense, but communicate? i believe they would. All animals on this earth do have that capability however. Inter species communication plays a role in behaviors, so i believe the Godzilla species would be quite capable of it. 

Even the MUTO's possessed this, though

TRUE AMERICAN GODZILLA - This is a very compelling question you've raised! I happen to think that Edwards' Godzilla evidenced a great deal of both intelligence and sapience. His mannerisms speak of a creature that is self-aware and conscious of itself to a large degree. Take a look at the moment right after Godzilla has defeated the Male MUTO. Weary from the combat, he slumps his shoulders with a heaving sigh - a sure sign of physical and mental fatigue. However, that mannerism is extremely, hmm, "human". I suppose, since Godzilla's species is far older than ours, we should say our mannerisms are actually a reflection of his! Even so, Godzilla shows a great many facial expressions and behavioral quirks that lead me to suspect he is exceptionally intelligent. He might not be able to "speak" in the fashion we communicate, but I'm fairly confident that he - like whales and other large, highly-evolved life-forms - is capable of comprehending abstract thoughts and ideas to some degree. Of course, we only have to look at how he finished-off his pair of MUTO foes for examples of his ability to strategize and take full advantage of situations. Of course, this is all speculation on my part based on loose observation. Godzilla very well could be as intellectually sharp as a bowling ball! Regardless, thank you ever so much for posing this question - it was very fun to think upon! :)

Based on my observations, the godzilla the film focuses on and I would presume his entire species seem to be quite intelligent. He can be observed problem solving and forming a strategy to kill both male and female mutos who, at the same time are not as intelligent seemingly, but do to a degree obtain a certain amount of respect from me as they are ruthless and at times show they are capable of almost complex thoughts. As I have read the comic, I would venture to say that the shinomura are not very intelligent animals at all but rather act on a higher form instinct than any we know to exist in any modern animal. That is all just my opinion based on what I have seen and understood. 

I would say that this Godzilla, like most others, is at the level of a very intelligent animal, as he is shown to make some crude strategies in combat and display a range of emotions, but to say that he is semi-sentient is a pretty big assumption to make. The Mutos seem to be less intelligent than Godzilla, but more than most animals, because they, too, display some emotions, and the female was able to figure out that Ford was responsible for destroying her eggs.
