Should Gamera get an American reboot?

I don'r really know where else to put this, but here goes:

With the colossal success of the new American Godzilla, how would you feel about an American Gamera reboot? That would be cool, IMO.

Gamera

I think it could quite be beneficial for Gamera, since not many people in America know about him. Those who do think he is one of the Godzilla monsters. It could help Gamera get more well-known by the public. I had an idea for an American Gamera movie some time ago that takes him back to his original destructive roots from the 1965 film, Gamera the Invincible, where he attacks and destroys Boston, while later having to deal with a bigger threat to humanity: Gyaos.

How do you feel about this? Should Gamera head for American cinemas? Or do you think he's not ready?

Don't know but one thing is surem they'll REALLY have to change his design.

You think so? Well, not too much. Otherwise, it wouldn't look like Gamera.

It would be challenging.  I loved Gamera as a kid, but it doesn't have nearly enough of a loyal following to beget such a movie on its own, but in a way that is good--it would give more lattitude to do something original.  Still, it would have to be very well-done to not be seen as a B-rate, Godzilla imitation, yet still have to feed off the current Godzilla popularity to get people to theaters, because if we're honest, there really is no other compelling draw for this.  Frankly,I think its only hope would be to be largely original and not worry about the 50k people left on earth who know who he is or care who Gamera is...

Also, the nod to Boston in those old days was cool, but nowadays, after the Marathon Bombings, it might make Boston's destruction not so popular...

i think it would be an awesme idea. i would definetely go see it. as long as its treated respectibly like godzilla was

@Carl Majors

That is a problem. In fact I asked a person if he knew who Gamera was and he said, "Yeah, it's that turtle from the Godzilla movies, right?" And I had to explain to him that he had no affilation with Godzilla. And there's a lot more who don't know who he is at all. So, you're right, that could present a challenge.

Also, you bring up a good point about Boston. I just thought that would be somewhat original because it's never been destroyed in disaster movies. It's always New York or Los Angeles.

As far as origin goes, Shusuke Kaneko's Gamera: Guardian of the Universe had the best explanation that could justify the "socket rockets" and his spinny flying - he was an engineered organism (as were the Gyaos). Sort of a biological machine. This could be applied differently and still keep a similar premise.

As far as the actual new film coming out next year, I hope that Kodakawa has acquired a danged good VFX company to handle everything in order to do Gamera justice. I despised everything Gamera until Kaneko got ahold of it, and his treatment totally blew me away. Gamera the Brave had good FX for a traditional rubber suit n' miniatures monster movie, but I hated the plot and got sick of seeing a baby monster turtle get impaled repeatedly. :(

Speculatively, hypothetically, IF a film company from the Big Pink were to do a Gamera reboot, I think we need to pray that Mickey Bay would NOT be the one handling it. He's been responsible for wrecking more childhood memories than any single person alive - ESPECIALLY WITH WHAT HE'S DOING WITH TMNT!  Holy crap. It would make the Devlin/Emmerich Godzilla look like King Lear.

Wow, that's hard to do.  I consider Emmerich might be the Godzilla of movie writers (not necessarily as director): unstoppbably destructive, and impossible to understand.

Hey. I found an article about the new Gamera movie, but it is in a language that I can't understand. Could somebody translate it?

Page is Indonesian.  Here's the Google Translate (no editing):

If explorers lovers Kaijuu films and thought only of his Japanese "Godzilla" are returning to the big screen, be prepared again shocked! A site called The Good, The Bad, and Godzilla reports that publicist "Gamera" in Japan will release reboots the story Kaijuu shaped like a turtle's in 2015. Titled "Heisei Gamera: Perfections", the plot will collect stories from all the stories Gamera.

Currently, the film is still in pre-production stage and the monster will reportedly form much "different". The narrative takes place in the present era and tagline promising "Something is Out There"

Producer Shigenori Takatera will sit in the director's chair. "Gamera" was first released in 1965 in Japan to follow the success of "Godzilla". It seems hardly surprising after Godzilla lifted back to the big screen, the other Japanese monster character will follow.

Guys one question:  Is this new Gamera movie going to be Japanese or American?  If Japanese then wow, I don't think I'll ever get into Gamera then, sorry.

I mean I would get into him, but just not enough to take him in a good amount of seriousness

The 2015 Gamera I think is Japanese, but what about an American Gamera movie? Is anyone on board with an idea like that?
