MemberMothra LarvaeMay-21-2014 12:47 PMSo I've recently been reading the Official Movie Novelization for Godzilla, and it offers insight to the Mothra Easter egg.
At the beginning of Chapter 3 young Ford Brody takes a moment away from getting his surprise for his Dads birthday to look at the terrarium. The book describes a "butterfly cocoon" that Ford is disappointed has yet to hatch. Ford thinks to himself maybe it'll hatch tomorrow....

As we all know the Janjira plant collapses from the MUTO trying to get to the reactor to absorb the radiation to become powerful. So young Ford never gets to see his butterfly hatch....

In the book when Ford and Joe are back in the house in the Q-Zone Ford decides to go back to his old room. In the movie this is where we see the terrarium with the Motha sign on it. In the book though it goes into more detail! Ford looks closely in the terrarium to see if the cocoon has hatched, and it has! Ford even mutters to himself, hmm how about that?
Out of all the possibilities for a sequel I keep seeing a reference to Mothra because of this Easter Egg we see in the movie. The book goes even further to confirm that the cocoon has hatched.
So what do we think? Does this have ramifications to a sequel with Mothra in it? Or just a nice tie in to the Easter egg we see in the movie?

MemberBaragonMay-21-2014 1:32 PMgoing to have to go with the easter eggs on this, however that doesn't mean we won't get another toho kaiju in the sequal because as of right now anything is possible. :)

I recently heard from JapNation AniManga that there was an end credits scene in select Asia theatres to the movie and supposedly they showed Mothra commanding an army of MUTOs. This is, of course, purely speculation and rumor, but LEGIT! :D
