With a sequel coming in the next few years, we are already left to speculate which Kaiju may or may not appear in the sequel.
Will they be original creations like the Flying Male and 8-Legged Female M.U.T.O.s? Or will they be classic Toho Kaiju?
Let's start with possible Toho kaiju that will fit well with the overall feel that has been established with GODZILLA;
Hedorah could make an appearance in much a similar way as Shinomura did. Colonies of micro-organisms could form the Smog Monster, OR a new take can be had. Perhaps the United Nations develops a kind of nanobot that is designed to destroy pollution (radioactive or otherwise), but somehow the nanobots are also able to assemble in a giant "creature." I feel Hedorah would be one of the better to bring back, as pollution is a relevant topic today.
Destoroyah could also make an appearance in a Shinomura way. Instead of feeding on radiation, however, it would be one of the few micro-organisms from its time that fed on oxygen molecules. They were able to assemble as well to form a kaiju capable of holding its own against a few Apex Predators.
Biollante would be an interesting kaiju to bring back. There are a couple ideas that can work for her;
1) Godzilla's, the Female MUTO's and a venus-flytrap/rose's DNA would be combined by some really screwball person to create a twisted abomination.
2) An ancient kind of flora is discovered somewhere in the world. This flora was capable of semi-sentient actions and preyed upon many kinds of fauna from Godzilla's time.
3) Again, an acient kind of flora is discovered, but here, it is experimented upon, resulting in a semi-sentient plant kaiju.
Now, they're out of the way, let's look at possible original kaiju;
Shinomura- Perhaps more Shinomura are discovered? This thing looks like it would be amazing on the big screen.
M.U.T.O.- Perhaps some of the eggs survived? Or perhaps there are more discovered? This isn't the best idea, but at least one to be considered.
With them out of the way, what about this?
KING KONG- With Legendary Pictures switched partnerships to Universal Studios, there is a slightly larger chance of Godzilla and the mighty ape possibly clashing once again, US holds the rights to Kong. This is still fairly unlikely, though.
Now that my rambling theories are out of the way, let me hear your theories everyone!
