Godzilla commercials disappeared!

Haven't seen a single Godzilla commercial on TV today! Yet, I saw 3 TASM2 commercials during a 1 hour show. And those commercials where now saying "action from start to finish". Wonder if that was a poke a G's early lukewarm reviews about all the action being in the last act? Shouldnt Legendary/WB be really pushing it hard through the weekend?

GARYZILLA - I hadn't notticed that! That's extremely fascinating. Hmm, it might be that Legendary and Warner Brothers have decided to let the film stand on its own feet to see how it does now that it's drawn such an amazing amount of revinue over the course of its debut. Perhaps they believe it's strong enough to endure by word of mouth? I agree with your assessment that it would be ideal for them to be extolling their film's virtues as extensively as possible in order to give it a solid whack at the billboards! As an aside, what did you think of the film? I enjoy hearing everyone's opinion. :)

I agree with Something Real. I'm pretty sure they will continue showing Godzilla ads for a while though. Maybe they are just taking a break.

I think part of it is that the ads were so deliberately secretive and sparing in showing Godzilla, and they know that now his mug will be all over the internet, plus reviews, TV shows etc...so the trailers automatically lost their mystique overnight.  I suspect starting next weekend we'll start seeing "Godzilla's a 'force of nature' hit!" commercials with action shorts...

Film was somewhere between good and excellent depending on what aspect you consider.  Wished for: more Cranston, more Watanabe, more credible large-scale military response (would have made the movie even better, believe me), and more Godzilla battle tactics (the tail slap was Komodo Dragon 101-very cool); less military fighting with small arms (didn't any of those Soldiers see Starship Troopers?).

I thought the first 30 minutes of the movie were riveting.  I'm not a Breaking Bad fan at all, but Cranston is simply a great actor--there can be no doubt.  The MUTO escape and escapades were well done. The sub in the jungle was just perfect--slightly predictable, preposterous--and then so much more awesome because of it. Edwards looked genius-like in that sequence. I thought the battle was pretty good and thankfully not too long (Michael Bay, are you reading?).  The young Brody storyline had merit and some good spots (I liked the Japanese kid tagalong--that was well done too), but could have been locked in a little better. His wife and boy became such afterthoughts, that I never got attached to them, and not too much to him either.  It was a main theme (family) and it somehow got weaker between Acts II and III. A more descript lead actor for younger Brody to balance and then "carry on" the Cranston father character persona would have been better.  Who? I don't know...but I'll think about it.

CARL MAJORS - I actually feel that your assessment of the film is quite spot-on! Very well spoken. Indeed, the film had its share of minor problems, but it certainly rose above any shortcomings with an increidbly compelling series of events that moved onward to a phenominal ending! :)

Yes. I liked the ending...Edwards was clever too to cover Godzilla with dust such that I thought he'd been partially vaporized by the A-bomb...very clever.

Nothing against Johnson's acting either, it's just that after Cranston, he just kind of fades into the action, y'know?

Yep, I think the next movie we'll see some more Godzilla battle tactics.  I loved his directness and innovation...and learning from his mistakes.

Did anyone else notice the little Cloverfield references? (SoL, the MUTOs etc)

CARL MAJORS - Johnson did, indeed, seem a bit stilted at certain points; there's no mistake about that. I certainly hope to see more tactical combat between Godzilla and his foes in future installations - that would please me greatly! :)

As far as tactics, rumor has it in the next movie Vladimir Putin is going to teach Godzilla Sambo...and immediately tell him to overrun Ukraine.
