With just enough human drama to sweep the spectacle of giant monsters destroying everything in sight, Godzilla restores the franchise's Atomic breath breathing glory.

My second favirote Godzilla movie

My favirote Godzilla design.

Good grief.

i saw the film a day after the release and it was great it started out slow but as the movie progressed it got better edwards did a great job with bringing the monster back to life and im looking forward to the next 2 films.

I loved the animation, the story's premise, and the monsters. But the acting (aside from Bryan Cranstan and Ken Watanabe) and movie as a whole was horrible. Though we all obviously didn't come to see story in a Godzilla film.

I don't know if this has been posted (and I apologize if it has), but here is a rather interesting review of Godzilla from Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy Review:

http://moria.co.nz/sciencefiction/godzilla-2014.htm

The reviewer makes some interesting comments about the film and it's relationship to Gareth Edward's Monsters, reviewed here:

The review of Monsters has made want to watch it again.

I love this movie. I know there wasn't as much fighting as the new one but there were many great scenes explaining Godzilla. Also I thought the end was a great finish to the whole movie. The famous line "let them fight" really was a great finisher. Also the scenes were they are just trying to find Godzilla were a key part to the film. Also it was just starting the series off. Most of the time the first movies in the series are just saying what will happen for the rest of the time. Like Captain America: The First Avenger or Star Wars A New Hope. Both of those films did a great job of starting off the series for a new more exciting sequel.

I've seen it many times and have let it gel for a few years so I have a settled opinion. It's a mixed bag for me. To get the bad out of the way I'll mention two things. The first is that ATJ is a horrible actor and cannot carry the lead in a movie. The second is that I agree that Edwards played it too cute by mostly showing Godzilla through windows, or by using a two second clip of his tail swish. I get that he was trying to show the MUTOs from the perspective of the characters but it tended to trivialize the presence of Godzilla who was the real star of the show and not the grunts running around using small arms on a Titan. How many shots did we get of soldiers running around anyway? Now for the good. The model of Godzilla was excellent. He looks serious and substantial. Great presence, detail and sounds just not enough of all three. It felt like even less than in the 70's and 80's ToHO movies and yes, I've seen those. The other main positive for me is that Godzilla was treated seriously and not as camp. At least Edwards attempted to ground the MUTOs on a real and contemporary Earth and that creates suspense and drama. I think that Watanabe was great and that Monarch's presence was established. I understand too that it was the first step in at least a trilogy so all in all a decent start to that effort.

I saw this movie 1 week before, and it was amazing.

Loved two Mutos fighting to godzilla.

But I was disappointed when Mutos all died, especially femuto.
We never saw Muto's child, and Muto's adulthood. It may be a great scene at future when adult muto and godzilla fought each other. Also, there are babies, grown up, then it will be Godzilla team vs Mutos.
