In truth, monster vs monster, of any kind, big or small, has never done well. Most of the viewing public thinks those fights are silly. The movies with the most appeal are monster vs man. "Mody Dick", "Jaws", "King Kong", "Alien" "Frankenstein" and, of course, "Godzilla 1954" are all classics because they emphasizes the power of the monsters as compare to the frailties of man (and vice versa). If Godzilla 2014 spends the vast majority of the movie emphasizing the battles bettween monster vs man, I think it will do $800 million to 1 billion, worldwide. But if Godzilla spends too much time fighting MUTOs, the battles will become as uninspiring as the ridiculous battles in "Pacific Rim", thereby limiting its box-office grosses to about $500 million. I have been a Godzilla fan since 1963, I want to see it break box-office records. Personally, I hope Godzilla roasts the MUTOs on sight and then proceeds to terrorize the West Coast until man figures out a way to neutralize him.
