Hey G-Fans!!!

Here's a quick short article about Godzilla's trailer views compared to other trailers you should check out: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/trailer-report-godzillas-second-preview-686932

I was just posting to say that it's looking increasingly likely that Godzilla may be gaining ground with general audiences. Obviously, it's too early to make any sure-fire bets about Godzilla's box-office fate, but it's becoming increasingly likely that we might actually have a financial hit on our hands.

So a lot of my posts and comments have focused on Godzilla's potential STRUGGLE at the box office. Especially domestically, I've been very concerned that the movie won't do well.

Even if Godzilla managed to become a financial hit, I was fairly certain that Godzilla's competition in May would bring home more bacon.

Now, I'm not saying I'm wrong, but the most recent piece of marketing evidence has carved out some room for doubt. Maybe Godzilla's fate is less in the box office backseat that I originally feared.

The article talks about the recent trailer scored over 26 million views in its first week, which is actually HIGHER than the opening weekly view counts of Spiderman, X-Men, or Captain America, by a significant margin. The Dec. 10th teaser trailer, managed to gain 27 million views over the course of a WHOLE MONTH. This second trailer has almost matched that in a single week.

So long story short, while one trailer view count report is obviously a small slice of the box office prediction pie, it is the very first piece I've seen which shows that Godzilla 2014 should be able to legitmately COMPETE with the best super hero sequels have to offer.

That's pretty much it for now. Have a nice day everybody!

Yes, like you said the trailer views is only a small part of the box office, I actually think it takes no part at all at the box office.

I think what is finally helping Godzilla get more attention is that people realize how different it is from most recent blockbuster movies.  Regardless of whether The Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc., end up being either good or bad, they'll still be just more superhero movies in the recent wave of them.  In contrast, Cloverfield and Pacific Rim are pretty much the only giant monster movies released in the equivalent timeframe, and Godzilla has much, much better marquee value than any other giant monster.

It's hard to tell how well the movie will do based on the trailer. It's hard to form a decent argument for it. Past evidence has been erratic. Some movies have trailers that were watch a whole lot and flopped, others didn't. Some movies had trailers that weren't watched online much but still blew out the box office.

The only real concrete evidence of anything is that Godzilla is getting plenty of exposure from the new trailer. And seeing as I've watched the Snickers commercial every other day on TV, it's far to say it's getting plenty of exposure from that as well.

And gee, look, it never even had a super bowl trailer. ;)

EDIT:

I also want to point out that Legendary must be doing something right. 300: Rise of the Empire just demolished the competition at the box office yesterday by almost $10 million. It should hit close to $40-$50 million domestically by the weekend's end.

It's crazy to me since I feel like I've only seen a handful of marketing from the movie. Good news for the new Godzilla trailer as well. It means it's getting plenty of exposure this weekend.
