I did some comparisons using google earth and the 555 California street building and there´s no way he could look that tall if he´s only 350ft tall.
About 600ft is the perfect heiht for him, he will look like a walking mountain and there´re still enough buildings they could hide him behind.
But this point is still a bit strange to me, it´s not Godzilla-like to hide ;)
And I think they don´t need buildings to hide him, they could use smoke, mountains and the sea - so no real reason to downsize him.
ive never watched a movie where they don't screw up scale ever once in a while and im sure this wont be any different. Fricken cloverfield, they couldn't decide on the monsters size.
after watching it on blu ray.. and seeing it in the theaters too.. the last 60 seconds of the movie reveals GODZILLA'S approximate height. And without a doubt in my mind.. after doing some intense research on the buildings near GODZILLA as he was getting ready to roar and then go for a swim... I have concluded that HE IS TALLER THAN 500 feet. and that cannot be debunked. either Hollywood lied.. or they got it wrong in the FX department.
@RR44 - You're conclusion is entirely inaccurate and Legendary themselves have confirmed his height numerous times. Seriously, stop trying to guess that he's taller than 355 feet which is his official listed height from Legendary.
He is not 500 feet, nor is he more than 500 feet. If you haven't paid attention to Legendary's official stats and such, start doing some research because in all honesty it's just sad that you still think that he's that tall. The buildings he was walking by in the end of the movie were only around 25-30 stories, not 45-50 stories. He's not 500 feet plus. He's 355 feet.
It's a fact now, so accept it and move on.
to the previous comment I say this... I DID DO RESEARCH.. and unless hollywood shrank the buildings in that scene for purposes yet to be known.. the buildings heights remain the same and cannot be simply ignored .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Embarcadero_Center
this building is the one featured in the last scene before godzilla goes swimming. SO.. think what YOU want.. and look at the link above.. watch the movie again and then make a call.. anyone with common sense can see this and come to a rational conclusion. either hollywood got the FX wrong or they are not telling the truth about his height.
peace.
Yeah, they definitely got the FX wrong. Example: The Golden Gate Bridge.
From where Godzilla rose out of the water, there was no way he could've stood with his upper body above the bridge. Only near the shore along the shallow bottom could he have achieved that. However, his overall height makes sense in that scene. From where he was standing in the water, if it did happen to be that shallow, he could easily show himself like he did. 355 feet makes sense, because other heights above that are pushing it as far as "tall as some buildings, taller than others, shorter than others, and still able to be hidden".
The thing is, Godzilla is much larger in mass compared to a building of a similar height, which can also give the allusion he's much taller than he actually is.
I'm so perplexed as to why it matters that Godzilla is even bigger than 107 meters. Why is it so important to some fans that he be even bigger than the impossible size he already is? Isn't he big enough?
I don't get it either. Though, to be fair.......... Actually, i won't spoil it. You'll have to wait for my series down the line for that unfinished answer to be finished ;D
Yeah i thought we were done with this whole subject.
He is 355 feet people, that is tall enough for me.

since this is a discussion about his size.. and for those who do want to know.. so what. thats why its called GODZILLA'S 2014 SIZE DISCUSSION. if you don't care and wish to move on from this topic.. do so.. no one is telling you to care or not to care. and its the oakland bay bridge.. not the golden gate bridge. fact.
^That's fine if you care, but the official stats are 107 meters. Why not just accept there are size discrepencies for creative purposes. Godzilla's size has fluctuated for 60 years, why not try to figure out his "real size" in the other films?
It sounds to me like some people here just want Godzilla to be bigger for the sake of being bigger.
That isn't our problem. Our problem is people trying to refute official statements of the size of our latest Godzilla iteration. He's 355 feet tall, no questions asked. We're not really arguing his actual size; more along the lines of his presented size.
Sure, he may not always look like 355 feet tall, and sure, sometimes the SFX make it seem like he's bigger and/or smaller than he should be, but that's an issue with scaling in general when it comes to FX :p
not true.. its not a question of me wanting him bigger.. its a question of integrity. if you tell someone that a cherry is green when in fact it is red.. whats the point ? I see what I see and then I go.. hmmm.. what ?? 355 feet?? not according to the visual on the screen. if he's bigger so be it.. but don't insult my intelligence and claim he is one height..ie 355 feet.. and then display him on the big screen as being much larger.. I have sent a message to legendary about this.. and even though I wont get a reply.. they will get the message.. I am not here to make grand claims.. only point out facts and inconsistancies. and yes.. his height does matter because toho will want it to matter.stats and info on the web can be manipulated.. and we all know how honest hollywood is.. not. I trust my eyes. I see it.. and thats that. when I was in grade school I read a book simply titled.. GODZILLA. in it Godzilla was said to be 400 feet tall. (this book was put out there by hollywood and it came out in the mid 70's.).. of coarse he was not in the original.. but hollywood wanted him to be . so size has been at the forefront for a long time.
Toho? You mean the studio that yo-yo'd Godzilla's size for 50 years? A 50 meter monster who was presented to be roughly the same height as high tension towers and then in Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla they're about half his size when he transforms into a magnetic force?
Or the 100 meter Godzilla established as being double the height of high tension towers in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah and then in Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II they're suddenly his height again?
Please. Toho only wants a stat to put into hundreds of compendiums they'll make money off of for the next 60 years. If Toho cared that much their producers wouldn't have praised it up and down.
Look, RR44........ we aren't insulting you. We're just concerned you're not approaching the facts straight. This new Godzilla is 355 feet tall. That's official, just like all other Godzilla iterations and their official heights.
Does that mean SFX makers will accurately represent that all the way through? No. In fact, it's almost guaranteed that there will be discrepancies for the purposes of film presentation. Does that mean it'll always be inaccurate? No. In fact, it's almost guaranteed as well that for the most part, SFX makers will try to remain accurate if possible.
It's not like it's a big issue that's never been seen before, because it's actually a lot more prevalent in earlier films than this one, really, logically looking back on things.
They did warn us before the movie was released that there were some bad SPFX shots that would make godzilla look twice as big though.
Other than that i am going to have to agree with Gman 1, and Gman 2.
