Could a new Megalon be a major enemy in Godzilla 2014?

Alright, so we know Godzilla will face off against insect-like Monsters, which are apparently created in the same fashion that Godzilla is - by Man's tampering with mother nature and nuclear power. We have confirmed this thanks to the recent Comic-Con footage which was shown earlier this month. Some rumors swirled about Godzilla facing Hedorah in the film - but that doesn't really make sense, nor does it fit the description of the monsters we've been told we'll see. Megalon however, is quite insect-like, and could potentially pose a serious threat to Godzilla if given a modern twist, similar to the New Gigan thread I just posted. Check out this new Megalon concept by artist Larry Quach below, and keep reading as to why we may actually see a classic Monster in Godzilla 2014... Now I'm sure you're thinking "But Chris, Legendary didn't secure any rights to any other TOHO Monsters! This topic is BS and we should move on to thinking about the NEW monsters!" ... But ah, there is a method to my madness. In numerous interviews between fans and director Gareth Edwards, regarding Godzilla and the Monsters he's facing, including the "Hedorah Rumor", Gareth simply said "I will neither confirm or deny any rumors of any classic Monsters being in the new film" - Don't quote me word-for-word, but that is essentially what he told reporters and fans, when they had their Q&A. At least, that's what the Twittersphere kept saying, and the sources seemed reliable enough to post this topic. So, given the fact that we know Godzilla will fight insect-like Monsters, and that we still have yet to see the "BIG" / "Main" enemy in the film, it is likely Legendary could have Megalon lined up behind the curtain. Think about it - modernize Megalon, he's a giant Beetle, essentially. Have Megalon be the "buggest beetle", "queen beetle" if you like (even though they don't colonize, I know). It COULD work, and given the right design and right development, I think Megalon could be a kick-ass opponent and a nice surprise for the hard-core, older fans like many of us. What do you think? Let me know your thoughts below.

I've heard that they weren't going to use any Toho monster apart from Godzilla and that the monsters are all new. From what I saw in the trailer it did resemble Kamacuras however it's skin was all grey and rough. However this could have been because the scene was a night. However they could have homages. I would like to see new monsters added to the Kaiju list.

I'd prefer some new creatures for the Big G to face off against. If there is one thing that Toho were guilty of it was reusing characters particular King Ghidorah, Mothra and MechaG. Keep the G faithful to the Toho vision and let us see some fresh enemies on the first outing and then consider building up to an established enemy the 2nd time around.

I don't think you could ever overuse Mecha G. even though I always, ALWAYS root for Godzilla in any battle - man, monster, or machine. And as far as the question posted on Facebook just recently regarding Megalon as a formidable foe, I have to say no, he would not be as he has never been in the past. He's predictable and is too easy to "kill" or just sweep aside for more pressing matters for the Big G.

I would like to see Megalon in a new movie since he was only used in the movies once. So yeah while he's kind of lame, he's got potential and with a new design like the ones up above, it's looks pretty cool, plus if they're going with bug insects they should totally throw in Kamacuras, Kumonga, and Megaguirus. Could be a sweet four on one battle.

I think Megalon would be a cool monster to use.

I think Megalon would be cool to use as well, he was only used once and I thought he actually put up a pretty descent fight in godzilla vs megalon, I'm not sure if I'd go with the design pictured above though, looks too much like kumacaras, I do like the concept design on the left though of the second picture but without the 2 extra arms. He does fit well too in the bug category since there's going to be bug monsters that Godzilla will apparently be facing but I don't mind seeing a new monster either.

No, Megalon will not be in this film. For one, BOTH of Godzilla's opponents will be new. And two, what makes you think that both of Godzilla's enemies will both be insectoids? THAT needs an explanation

Well the idea to fight a new Megalon could be nice but I don't see it happening in the first movie. I like most fans think that we should see all new monsters at first to set the story in good for anything new to come. I have always wanted to see Godzilla vs Mecha-Kong. In this we would see the U.S.A. perform the same cloning, cyborg, experiment as was done to make Mecha Godzilla.

Dude, Megalon represents Sea Topia. He's a good role model for Pacfic Rim. I mean, it's a perfect example for a crossover...

i have a very good idea for the next godzilla movie and it could be about the son of godzilla to battle up against biollante and battra in the next movie.

CHRIS PICARD - The new conceptual artwork you provided is quite stunning! Thank you ever so much for sharing it! As for the premise that Megalon might be the primary villian in the next film: that could very well be an incredibly neat surprise! Like you stated earler: if he's given a revamp and good story concept, Megalon could prove to be a savage foe for Godzilla - likely a solid match. As a whole, Megalon has always been relegated to what feels like a "lesser" or "supporting" enemy role. Giving him a chance to shine with new CGI, a more menacing personality and an overhauled physiology that will make him a solid contender against Godzilla would be quite compelling! I've always felt that Megalon had a great deal of potential; let's hope he makes the cut! :)
