AdminSpaceGodzillaJul-24-2013 12:56 AMAlright, so we know Godzilla will face off against insect-like Monsters, which are apparently created in the same fashion that Godzilla is - by Man's tampering with mother nature and nuclear power. We have confirmed this thanks to the recent Comic-Con footage which was shown earlier this month. Some rumors swirled about Godzilla facing Hedorah in the film - but that doesn't really make sense, nor does it fit the description of the monsters we've been told we'll see. Megalon however, is quite insect-like, and could potentially pose a serious threat to Godzilla if given a modern twist, similar to the New Gigan thread I just posted. Check out this new Megalon concept by artist Larry Quach below, and keep reading as to why we may actually see a classic Monster in Godzilla 2014...

Now I'm sure you're thinking "But Chris, Legendary didn't secure any rights to any other TOHO Monsters! This topic is BS and we should move on to thinking about the NEW monsters!" ... But ah, there is a method to my madness. In numerous interviews between fans and director Gareth Edwards, regarding Godzilla and the Monsters he's facing, including the "Hedorah Rumor", Gareth simply said "I will neither confirm or deny any rumors of any classic Monsters being in the new film" - Don't quote me word-for-word, but that is essentially what he told reporters and fans, when they had their Q&A. At least, that's what the Twittersphere kept saying, and the sources seemed reliable enough to post this topic.
So, given the fact that we know Godzilla will fight insect-like Monsters, and that we still have yet to see the "BIG" / "Main" enemy in the film, it is likely Legendary could have Megalon lined up behind the curtain. Think about it - modernize Megalon, he's a giant Beetle, essentially. Have Megalon be the "buggest beetle", "queen beetle" if you like (even though they don't colonize, I know). It COULD work, and given the right design and right development, I think Megalon could be a kick-ass opponent and a nice surprise for the hard-core, older fans like many of us.
