So, let's ask the most important questions of all, what is your review of Godzilla King of the Monsters. How many times do you plan to see it. And are anyone skipping work or school to see it?

Ok, I just got back from my first screening of the movie. My initial reaction? Mind-blowing monster fights. CGI these days are a hit-and-miss, some are of decent quality, others are not-so-decent and some are downright terrible. Not so with Godzilla KOTM. You can tell the CGI artists and effect specialists really put an effort to get the kaijus right. The detail rendering, shadow and lighting as well as the heft in the kaiju movements are all done really well. My jaw literally dropped during a few key fight scenes. They don't look cartoonish. I admit I was teary for some moments, because this was what I, as a Godzilla fan, has always wanted to see. A grown man getting teary over Godzilla. I am not embarrassed to say that.

As for the story, some critics say it was very thin or even non-existent. I disagree. There is a core theme with a few key characters about the impact of a loss in the family and what that will do to people. And I was genuinely moved in a few scenes with humans. Not going to spoil what those scenes are exactly, but you will know when you see it.

Now the negatives. Yeah, some of the dialogue and exposition could use some work. It can come off a little wooden at times. Also the fast cut editing might just be a bit too fast. I would prefer they linger on some scenes for the gravity to sink in, but they just move abruptly to the next scene without letting you to catch your breath. But are those issues deal-killer? No. Would it stop me from watching the movie again? No. Would I recommend this movie to my family and friends? Absolutely.

Gonna see it tonight. Unfortunately I can only see it once, I don’t have the money to see it multiple times.

The movie was an amazing nostalgic trip that made me teary eyed. Seeing the movie is what I exactly envisioned it as a kid ever since I saw the old movies. Seeing the movie now with modern special effects, makes me happy. Will definitely watch it a second time.

Although, I do understand the complaints of some moviegoers or critics. This is a kaiju movie, as a kaiju fan I have already accepted that some plots of some movies lying on this genre have, at times, "eh" plots, which is sort of a staple for this genre. That's where the problem quite lies, as the people reviewing this film expect a lot when it comes to dialogue, yet failing to think about what this movie and this genre is about, giant monsters.

The greatest flaw that I have seen here, does not come from the movie, but from the ones watching and giving out negative feedback. Not trying to hate or rant, but they come to the cinema expecting a Marvel movie, which they won't. Marvel has humanoid characters, they speak,we can relate much easier. Whereas in these kind of movies, monsters are generally not able to talk using our tongue. Which quite leads to my next point: monsters are characters, too. Godzilla himself is a character, there are close-up shots of him showing different ranges of emotion. Look at his face and his actions. Heck, look at all monsters, they all spread emotion and character.

The movie should be enjoyed as to what it is, a kaiju movie, and as a kaiju movie, this one is one of the best. 9/10 for me.

(sorry, not good with reviews, but I really wanted to speak my mind)

I want to start out by saying I thoroughly enjoyed watching KOTM in theaters. It was the first Godzilla movie I'd seen in theaters, even though I've been a fan my whole life. Hearing Godzilla's roar (I'm so glad they fixed that) in theaters at the opening of the film was amazing. But honestly the film was kind of a mess. I actually thought the central human story (with the Russels) was good to begin with. And many of the kaiju battles were really spectacular.  Ghidorah was a little bland, his cackle/roar replaced with screeches and snaky noises. But beyond that... the movie was soooo stupid. Admiral Stenz suddenly pulling out the oxygen destroyer, and then they use it, and it doesn't really do anything. In the space of 4 minutes it's there, used, and then gone never to be thought of again. It was just a really pointless easter egg. Ghidorah growing his haed back quicker than you can say 'Godzilla' was just goofy. How many extra heads does he have in there? What is he, a pez dispenser? the worst part of the movie to me was Rodan. He was a digusting bootlicker. A complete stooge, a goon. He acted like Gigan, not Rodan. Mike Dougherty said he was his favorite, but I don't see it. Not to mention, almost all the Rodan scenes were given away in the trailer. Not cool. Godzilla had to be revived, brought back from the edge of death, twice, and Mothra was hardly in it. The other Titans were MUTO level, including the other MUTO. What was with the trunkless mammoth who lumbered around like an ape (Behemoth)? Or the spider-y thing with tentacles (Scylla)? The ending was ridiculous, Godzilla eating Ghidorah, belching lightning, and then having all the other kaiju bow before him, even "Rodan" (Titanus Buttkisser). If the Kaiju-excuse me "Titans" (sounds like a high-school sports team)- are animals, animals don't bow. And Alphas don't work cross-species. The plot point of the cities the Titans had destroyed coming back to life with trees and plants and furry little woodland animals, would almost have made sense, like the forest fire thing, had they not said 'because of the radiation' that's not what radioactivity does. It kills people, animals, and plants. Plus the weird nature worship/Titan gods thing was way too much. It felt like 90's Gamera or worse Rebirth of Mothra (or even just '92 Mothra). Godzilla almost always has a spiritual aspect, but there's a right way to do it and a wrong way. This movie was uncomfortable. There's so much to talk about that was stupid or ridiculous, I'm going to stop. The good parts of the movie... As I said a lot of the battles were pretty spectacular, and the central human story was good. There was a good story there, but they just went on too many tangents, (fast scene editing was bad) and off too many deep ends. It was trying to be an epic in the space of 2 hours, and there just wasn't room for it. It ended up just too busy. It came close, but instead falls to the level of Space Godzilla, Megalon even. Colossally, 'Titanically' stupid. Dumber than a box of rocks. But still somehow, a lot of fun. "Rodan" was still gypped. Justice for Rodan!!!

I saw it last night and plan to see it again. I feel like I watched a different movie than most critics. I read multiple times that the story is unnecessarily complex. Its not. My 11 year old had no problem understanding the who, what and why of the story.

I also read that its too much monster and not enough character. Wrong again. Aside from maybe one particular character, I felt as though everyone was fleshed out.

Overall, a great Godzilla movie made for Godzilla fans.

I'm going to save my full outlook on the film once the honeymoon period has ended, but I will say I loved the bowing scene.

That was single handedly the goofiest, most hilariously awesome and ballsy thing they could have done in a Hollywood movie. It calls back to the over-the-top, anthropomorphic characteristics of the Showa era and I loved it.

The fact is these monsters aren't animals, they're characters. We can throw the "animal" facade to legitimize the story as much as we want, but these cinematic beasts are characters and I'm glad they were treated as such.

Bow down.

FireRodan93: Yeah, that's fair enough, I can see where you are coming from. In short, you thought the story was messy, incoherent and stupid, yet you still enjoy the movie in the end? That last bit is interesting. Your true "Godzilla fan" is emerging behind your dislike of elements of the movie. Yay! :)

(Just kidding, you are entitled to your view of course, no objection.)

Yeah. Messy and Stupid, yet somehow enjoyable in a Space Godzilla kind of way. And Rodan was cheated out of His proper role. I'd go see it again though.

I don't want to give a final rating until I see it again, but I will say bare minimum I had a fun time.

I enjoyed it. Best American Godzilla movie. Top 10 of all Godzilla movies. Am I still on a high right now and ranking it too high? Probably. Don't care. It was good.

It's one of my favorite movies of all time, surpassed Godzilla 2014 easily--and really brought out the durability and power of Godzilla. Anyone complaining about him needing to be helped hasn't seen proper Godzilla movies, like Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 where Rodan literally saves him in much the same way as Mothra did. This Godzilla survived a point-blank Oxygen Destroyer, and battled Ghidorah multiple times one-on-one--an aerial being that was capable of lifting all of his weight up and flying above the clouds with him. When he unleashed the nuclear pulse it was incredible. I also love the elements and callbacks to Godzilla vs Destoroyah, from him nearly overheating to going full Burning Godzilla.

Good grief.

I've seen the movie three times already, and plan to see it at least once more. To be honest, I left the theater the first time a little disappointed. Maybe my expectations for movies in general are too high? I felt better after consecutive viewings, so here are my thoughts:

Overall, I really do enjoy this movie. There are a lot of really great things, and a lot of moments that did have me genuinely giddy. Seeing Godzilla swim up to Castle Bravo, Ghidorah and Godzilla's first showdown, Mothra's imago reveal with her song playing over it, Mothra using the god rays and blowing the clouds away, Godzilla's rebirth and Boston entrance, and "Fire Godzilla" all had me feeling like a kid. The bowing scene was really silly, but so so cool.

Unfortunately, there was a lot I didn't like. I wasn't all that impressed by the effects. Some of them were really good, but sometimes the monsters movements looked really stiff and weird. The shot of Godzilla at the very beginning put me off. I thought there were too many characters, they could have easily merged some of them or left some of them out and fleshed the main characters more. I liked most of them, I just think the story would've been more impactful with a smaller cast. Emma Russel in particular was not good, I thought her motivations were all over the place. The plot was kind of a mess, imho. Not hard to follow, as some critics are saying, but... unnecessary? With all the characters and monsters they were putting in, they should've gone with less storylines and really just focus, so the story could service the characters and monsters more. The myth and "first gods" stuff was a little too much for me. Honestly, if they wanted to do so much, they should have split this story up. They could have probably fleshed everything out, lengthened the fights, and ended this movie with the "mass awakening" scene, and Godzilla presumed dead. Also, the oxygen destroyer was stupid. They should have just called it "plot device".

Which brings me to the monsters. Godzilla was awesome. No complaints about him. Ghidorah was really menacing, though I wish he spent less time walking on his wings. Mothra was beautiful, but she hardly got any screen time, and her connection with Godzilla wasn't explained at all. Rodan was really cool up until his fight with Ghidorah. Other than that, kinda lame. I probably would've dropped either Mothra or Rodan from the movie so the other could get more love. As for the monster fights, they were awesome... while they're on the screen. I'm disappointed that there were no extended sequences with the titans. When a monster fight breaks out, that should be the focus of the scene. If I could sum up my thoughts on this movie, it would be "focusing too much on the stuff that doesn't matter". Why would you show clips of monsters destroying cities instead of showing us the monsters destroying the cities?!?? Why would you have characters saying "they're killing each other!" instead of showing the monsters killing each other??!? Why would you show an entire city destroyed by Ghidorah and Rodan without showing the city getting destroyed? There is so much exposition being given while what could've been the coolest parts of the movie are happening off screen! I know that CGI is expensive, but don't go for such an ambitious story when you don't have the money for it.

But alas, Godzilla and Ghidorah's first fight was really cool. Rodan and Ghidorah's tussle was cool while it lasted. Godzilla and Ghidorah's second fight was chaotic. Rodan and Mothra's fight was spectacular. Godzilla and Ghidorah's final bout was absolutely amazing! Honestly, whenever the monsters are on screen, I'm having a blast.

Sorry this is so lengthy. I was unbelievably invested in this movie, like I know so many of you were, and I wanted so bad to adore it, but I can't help but think it could've been better. I am glad everyone else if loving it though! After I started thinking about this more like a Showa movie with better effects, it makes a lot more sense.

So far, this is easily my favorite movie of 2019. Had a ton of great things for kaiju fans, the characters were actually pretty good, and the new titans (what little of them we see) were cool too.

Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.

I loved it, I will probably put out what I would've done that I have been working on since the announcement of the inclusion of Mothra, Rodan, And Ghidorah (which I am actually really proud of.) I will also probably see it at least two times, the first screening available to the public which was may 30 at 4 est in standard format, and I am probably going to see the 3d version (yes, I love watching movies in 3d, it's my guilty pleasure) I would try to see it in IMAX but unfortunately there are no IMAX theaters anywhere near me.

Look upon my works, you mighty, and despair

Good characters. And AWESOME kaiju battles. Epic film.

I'll need to watch it again but as of right now it's kind of a mixed bag for me. It's definitely an improvement over the previous film in many ways but it still suffers from some of the same problems. There were more kaiju fights but I still felt like the action cut way away from the monsters too much to focus on the humans, who are all mostly unlikable and annoying, especially the Monarch crew.

However the soundtrack was amazing, as was the sound design in general. There were some genuinely beautiful scenes and lots of nice little Easter eggs for Kaiju fans. Overall my current rating of the film is 7/10.

9.5-9.999999999999999999/10!!!!! It was damn near perfect! ESPECIALLY THE SOUNDS!!!!! Loved the call backs to the OG 1954 film in the audio, and the Oxygen Destroyer! Poor Serizawa :(..... My main complaint is that they keep cutting back to the humans during the Kaiju fights, but other than that, BLIMMIN AMAZING!!!! Also, Mark's acting was a bit off..... BUT THE MOVIE WAS BLIMMIN AMAZING!!!! GODZILLA!!!!!! Burning Godzilla lasted all of 3 seconds... and didn't use his atomic breath..... BUT HE WAS AWESOME AND FINISHED GHIDORAH SO BRUTALLY!!!!!! The movie was 99.99999999999% Perfect!!!!!!!

Saw it and absolutely loved it. I can agree with some that the cutting away from the action was a tad disappointment but this movie delivered on everything I wanted. I rarely disagree with the critic consensus these days but Imo they really missed the mark on this one (how is Pacific Rim uprising getting better reviews than this?).

I’m sure if one were to look there would be a lot to nitpick with filmmaking and storytelling but within the first 10 minutes I knew what standard to hold this movie to. Current ranking of the Monsterverse to me is:

Godzilla KOTM

Godzilla

Kong: Skull Island
