We all want to see classic monsters return to the big screen, but the monsterverse can't just put all of the monsters we want to see return. Here is a list of 5 monsters that are the most likely to return and a list of 5 monsters that are the least likely to return.

the least likely monsters will be monsters that we want, but just don't work in the monsterverse. so no Minilla or Gabara.

There is one rule. These monsters need to be owned by Toho to be on the list.

Remember, this is not a wishlist. Some of the monsters that I love won't be on this list.

most likely

1. Destroyah

since the tweet from Micheal Doughtery of the oxygen destroyer arrived, people were speculating that this could be set up for Destroyah. I mean Destroyah is a monster that not only would fit in perfect in the monsteverse, but is a monster that is very popular and could get people interested in the movie he would appear in.

2. Mechagodzilla

I know that a giant robot version of Godzilla is pretty unrealistic, but it could work if legendary played it's cards right. Kiryu's origin for Mechagodzilla could work. At the beginning of the 2014 Godzilla movie, they find a Godzilla skeleton in a cave. The skeleton of that Godzilla could be used as the base for Mechagodzilla. also legendary has already tried to buy the rights of Mechagodzilla, but what happened after that is a mystery.

3. Anguirus

this monster is just way to easy to put in the monsterverse and is already one of the most popular Godzilla monsters, so this is really a no-brainer.

4. Mecha-King Ghidorah

Let's just assume that king Ghidorah won't make it out alive in Godzilla 2, legendary could still bring him back as Mecha-king Ghidorah. Maybe monarch takes the body of King Ghidorah and tries to build a mech out of him. this could be a great enemy monster for a destroy all monsters movie.

5. Battra

Godzilla and kong can't be the only major monsters to have movies in the monsterverse. that's like Marvel with only captain America and iron man. I think a Mothra solo movie could work if Mothra gets popular enough. Battra could then be the villain of the movie. I mean, the movie writes itself then.

least likely

1. Jet Jaguar

The amount of people I have heard saying that they want Jet Jaguar to join the monsterverse is seriously amazing. the only way that I could see this work is if the monsterverse teams up with Pacific rim and make jet jaguar a Jaeger.

2. King Caesar

A mythical dog/lion/human that is the protector of Japan. I'm mean Mothra is already in the monsterverse, but King Caesar might be a bit too far-fetched.

3. Gigan

Sorry for the people that would love to see Gigan in the monsterverse, because I am one of them. but if you think about it, a giant aliën cyborg invader might be a little bit too unrealistic for the monsterverse.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor gigan 2014

4. Space Godzilla

ones again, a bit too far-fetched. I mean, it's a Godzilla from space created by a black hole. I think they're just so many better options than him.

5. Mechani-Kong

if a second kong movie will be made, I think that Gorosaurus or even Biollante would just work way better. and because of Mechagodzilla already being on my most likely list, I don't think both could work and Mechagodzilla is just a more likely choice.

I hope you enjoyed this list. if you have you're own opinions or lists, put them in the comments.

Not sure if I could compile an entire list, but the most likely candidates would also have to be the most popular--For marketing reasons. And since MechaGodzilla is about as popular as King Ghidorah and Mothra, I'd say he would be the most likely.

Forget if it's realistic or not. If they feel like it would sell best, they would use him. (Though at this point I'm not expecting to see any new Monsterverse movies after 2020 anyway--But it's fun to speculate I guess.)

*Sees Jet Jaguar in the least likely*

*Triggered!*(That Desgin is bad@$$ tho)

Anyway Mechs would only work if it set in the far away future and also how is exactly King Ceasar far fetched? just simply make him another monster that has worshippers just like Kong and Mothra.

Godzilla Generations was a beautiful game! I loved the fact that there's a laser cannon inside of Dr. Serizawa's eyepatch.

I'm not sure how likely it is that we'll see any Toho monsters beyond Mothra, Rodan or King Ghidorah, but I would think Mechagodzilla would be by far the most likely. He's the last member of Toho's "Big Five," and the next most popular and marketable. The plausibility of a giant robot isn't really an issue, if Legendary were to decide they want to use Mechagodzilla, they would find a way to use him.

I definitely want to see Mechagodzilla more than destroyah. but because Destroyah has already been teased, I had to put him as number 1. I do hope Mechagodzilla will be chosen above destroyah for the future.

also, I get what you are saying about jet jaguar, but I think the only way he could join the monsterverse, is if he was a Jaeger from pacific rim and the 2 universes crossed what is not likely to happen.

and you have a point about king caesar, but then again then we have 3 animal based god like protectors in the same universe. I would personally like to see some variety.

and remember, all the monsters on the unlikely list are monsters that I really like (jet jaguar and king caesar). but I was more thinking about what would make sense for what we know so far about the monsterverse.

For the time being, monsters that are a bit less fantastical are the flavour of the the Monsterverse currently. However, they ARE expanding into "maybe magic, maybe mundane" territory and more outlandish animalistic monsters with the release of Kong: Skull Island and its post-release supplementary material, as well as the addition of Mothra.

Personally I want to see the Monsterverse continue past 2020 and be successful, give the West the stable giant monster franchise that it hasn't had in forever so that Japan can't hog the genre to itself. With that in mind, based on this predication, let's move on.

Anguirus is a sure bet, for sure. He's popular and easy to introduce. Simple. Destroyah is also a good bet, albeit maybe not quite as much as Anguirus, with a still relatively easy background to implement and a decent amount of popularity.

The rest of the monsters either lack the popularity or the background to truly fit into the Monsterverse currently. For example, despite how popular Mecha-Godzilla is, he just does not fit whatsoever, not to mention that Pacific Rim already has the giant mech thing down pat. Their universe is the one that makes giant robots to punch giant monsters, not the one we're talking about. Theirs has Humanity triumphantly winning against all odds, but the Monsterverse is about how screwed Humanity would be were it not for others to maintain the balance.

In a similar but different vein, a monster like Varan is easily quite usable with his background, but his popularity is....... well, let's just say he's not exactly a major franchise name.

MemberTitanosaurusOct-19-2017 4:52 AM

you have some fair points, but legendary can always rewrite their backstories. they did that for Godzilla and probably for the other monsters to make them more realistic.

what you're saying about pacific rim and mechs isn't really fair. giant robots have been explored in many other franchises (power rangers, Voltron, transformers, the iron giant, etc) so why can't the monsterverse. btw Mechagodzilla is one of if not the most iconic Godzilla enemy. legendary just has to make him seem fitting in this universe and I believe they could do that

And I don't think popularity is a big problem when we are talking about these monsters. the Muto's and skullcrawlers are completely new monsters, so they don't have any popularity at all. the things that make people come to see these movies isn't because the monsters are familiar, it's because they are interesting. the monsters have to stand out and be unique. mechagodzilla, battra and mecha-king Ghidorah are unique monsters and could possibly work in this new franchise.

Yea but Mechagodzilla's logic doesn't make sense not because of realism or anything like that its because why would anyone build a slow, not agile, Goji like robot when they can build fast, agile humaniod robot?

Godzilla Generations was a beautiful game! I loved the fact that there's a laser cannon inside of Dr. Serizawa's eyepatch.

KaijuBuildz

MemberTitanosaurusOct-19-2017 7:21 AM

I hope that you know that the problem of agile and speed is not a problem of the robot, it’s the giant size of it all. And for the problem of it looking like a robot Godzilla is by taking the Origen of kiryu and making the robot around a Godzilla skeleton. the skeleton that could be used for MechaGodzilla is literally in the first 10 minutes of the 2014 movie.

The point I was making was not that Mecha-G couldn't be made to fit.

My point was that there's really no point in doing so. The Monsterverse currently has established itself as a grounded Hollywood take on the giant monster genre, based around larger-than-life animals from the Earth and the stars that threaten to upset the stability of our real world.

The Pacific Rim universe has established itself as a crazy Hollywood take on the giant mech VS. giant monster genre, based around larger-than-life robots taking on larger-than-life giant monsters that come from an alternate universe in a world where the laws of physics have to sit in the corner for giant robot punching action.

They both have distinct identities, and thus distinct expectations. Both are slowly expanding their horizons into subgenres, but that sort of stuff requires time and incremental changes to make it work without resulting in audience alienation.

Before a popular and outlandish Toho classic like Mecha-G can come to the West, the West needs to make his new home comfortable for him. Basically, the Monsterverse would need to introduce elements of soft- sci-fi over a few films to make the jump to Mecha-G a smooth one.

MemberTitanosaurusOct-19-2017 7:41 AM

well if we are going to see Mechagodzilla in the monsterverse, it has to be after 2020 (maybe in 2022). maybe the pacific rim franchise might have ended by then and could make way for Mechagodzilla.

And the problem of the laws of physics in this universe isn’t really a problem in my opinion. This is still a movie, they don’t have to make it 100% realistic. They just have to get as realistic as possible. For example Godzilla would die just because of it’s size and weight. They can brake some rules.

Gonna go with the majority and says MechaGodzilla is probably the most likely. Most name recognition, and fan appeal. Behind that maybe something like a baby Godzilla.

As for least likely, I think most toho monsters are never going to be seen in the monsterverse but something like Space Godzilla is just one I can't see any situation it gets grabbed over.

The King of the Monsters

MemberBaragonOct-19-2017 9:18 AM

I'm of the belief that if Legendary had the intention of using any monsters beyond the Big Four in the near future, they will have already licensed Mechagodzilla. He's the most marketable, and the most tempting one for Legendary to go after. Not to mention I bet Toho would have been more willing to license him to Legendary before any other monsters.

I doubt Legendary would be racing to acquire any other monsters beyond Toho's Big Five. There's little to no marquee value for them to general audiences, and licensing them from Toho could prove expensive and would likely come with a whole set of requirements and stipulations Legendary must follow. I don't think Legendary would see the need to do that if they could just create their own new monsters and not affect the films' marketability in any substantial way. If we do see any more Toho monsters beyond Mechagodzilla, it will probably only happen if Legendary extends their license beyond 2020, which at this point I personally don't see happening.

As much as I want other Toho monsters to show up in the Monsterverse:

A: I don't think we'll be getting anymore movies beyond Godzilla vs. Kong unless KotM and GvK are wildly successful.

B: I'd like to see new monsters. I want new ideas and new concepts for what can be a giant monsters. The MUTOs and the Skull Crawlers were cool, but I think Legendary can really make something special if they continue to work on original creations.

The King of the Monsters nailed it.

Regardless if fans think it fits with the MonsterVerse or not, Legendary isn't going to buy characters from Toho's stable that don't, at the very least, have some modicum of recognition outside the franchise. Even if people don't recognize the name "MechaGodzilla" the idea that Godzilla fights a robot doppelganger is fairly well known on some vague pop culture level.

I find it unlikely they'll pay money for Anguirus, for example, since they can just blow up their own original dinosaur-like creatures. For example, why pay for the rights to Kumonga, when you can just do what Legendary did in Skull Island?

Realistic or not MechaGodzilla is most likely based on recognition and marketability alone.

Destoroyah? I don't know. I question that character's popularity.

Yeah, I can agree on the fact that destroyah and MechaGodzilla are the most likely monsters to appear in the monsterverse for now. The other monsters on the list are monsters that could happen if the monsterverse gets really popular.

I think the monsterverse needs to promote itself more as a universe. Most people that went to Kong skull island probably didn’t even notice that it was connected to Godzilla. I think they might be able to get people really excited about the monsterverse with Godzilla vs Kong. If not, let’s at least hope for a Godzilla 3 and a Kong 2

I don't think Destroyah would make any kind of appearance. As much as that would be great I just cant see what would happen if after an oxygen destroyer were to be used. It could be fun to see kong and Godzilla fight him in 2020. but I doubt it. lengendary has been creating some cool MUTO's. Im sure they have a trick up their sleeve.

But that's not the topic here. I think there is a possibility of Megalon or Gigan showing up as a MUTO. Maybe a mecha-Godzilla(kiryu style).

The least possible monsters to show up are hedorah or any bio-Godzillian monster such as Billante or spacegodzilla showing up.

That Godzilla Skeleton Wasn't a Godzilla Skeleton. It Was The Corpse Of Degon, a Godzilla Like Creature, Who Had MUTO Eggs Layed In Them By The MUTO Prime During Aftershock, And Died From The Infection.

That's Also How The Male MUTO Was Born I Think, Or It Could Be The Female, Or Maybe Both, But Theres No Possible Explanation Of Mechagodzilla Coming In the Monsterverse.

Seeing as King Ghidorah is a bonefide Alien in the Monsterverse. Gigan and Space Godzilla can still be featured if the Monsterverse continues beyond GVK

To be fair, they could retcon the corpses origins anyway they would like. The pre-novels have been very loosely connected to the movies so I don't a lot of people would really care.

Also, this topic was made 2 years ago which was before anything about KOTM was even revealed so some things in these topics won't hold up as much as they did when I originally uploaded these.

Xenotaris

I hope they do. Especially with the big surprise that this version of Ghidorah is an alien, it would be a shame for them to not expand on this concept in future installments (maybe even a civilized alien race like the Xilliens?).

If they are going to introduce any of the recurring non-kaiju aliens hopefully they look more like Aliens and not Humans with freaky powers, apemen in human skinsuits, or slug aliens masquerading as humans.

Yeah, I hope so too. I have had this idea though about a possible alien invasion storyline, but I think they would kind of need to be more human-like to work.

Just like how we have kaiju which are embodiments of real-life disasters and problems (Godzilla, Hedorah, Biollante, etc) I had an idea of making the aliens an embodiment of fugitives. Just like how fugitives come from countries in crisis and destruction, maybe the aliens could come from something similar (a Ghidorah attack before he came to earth perhaps?).

An alien backstory like this could make the aliens a bit more sympathetic and interesting, but ones again I think they would have to be a bit more human so we could relate the aliens more (if explained properly their human looks could make sense).

I'm completely against human aliens. To make aliens look human diminishes the "human", its make humans less unique and more generic. I'm all for humanoid aliens like the Engineers, Yaut'ja, Protoss, Gungans, Ewoks, Wookiees, Zabraks, and most of the Mass Effect aliens. I dislike human aliens because they are either just repainted humans or they are humans with powers.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. The closest the Godzilla franchise has gotten to actual alien-looking aliens were green monkeys and cockroaches so it would be a nice change of pace.
