Do you think Dokken would work well for a Godzilla soundtrack?

For those of you who don't know who Dokken is, here are a few songs from them:

I've always been of the opinion that Godzilla movies should stick with original film scores and stay away from pulling in pop/rock music of any kind.

Fitting a motion picture score, made specifically for the film, to a scene feels more respectful than fitting a scene to some outside artist's music. I'm more lenient with end credits music, but even then it has to fit the right tone. Honestly though, none of the above inspires confidence.

I am pretty agree. I would like they should do remixes of reinterpretation of classic Ifukube's themes. G-Theme, Godzilla appearance in the 62 film, Monster Zero March, Destroy all monsters and even Daimajin theme are great pieces

MANONTHESILVERMOON - Welcome to SCIFIED! It is always good to see new faces! Your choice of music is interesting, make no mistake! I personally believe Dokken produce music better suited to high-octane action films that hearken back to the early 80s, but if they strike the right tone for you with regards to Godzilla, there is nothing wrong with that in the least! Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us! Once again, welcome to SCIFIED! :)

@Gman2887 If they can put Sum 41 in a Godzilla movie, they can put Dokken in one, right?

@gojira19 Having rock in a monster movie isn't a crime.

@Something Real Thanks for being interested, but Dokken has soft music, I think any Dokken song would work well for a Godzilla movie.

ManOnTheSilverMoutain,

The inclusion of SUM41 was tacky at very, very best and abysmal at worst--It was Toho trying to commericalize the series in the most obvious way possible. It added arguably nothing to the scene and was made part of the movie merely to sell it to a wider audience. It was not a well thought out or formally artistic use of the song in the film. Of course, very little of Final Wars could be considered "good" anyway.

Saying "any song" from any artist would work well in a Godzilla film is ignoring what each individual film and their individual scenes is about. You don't simply slop any song into a scene without thought, otherwise you have a pointless inclusion which is merely an example of selling out.

I would say the majority of Godzilla films work best with original scores and pop/rock music would diminish their quality.

@Gman2887 Well, having rock in a monster movie is still cool. Final Wars was a good film. Had the "Godzilla vs. the Gryphon" movie been made, Dokken's "Breaking The Chains" would've fit well for the scene where Godzilla escapes the lab and goes to fight the Gryphon. Don't get me wrong, original scores are great, but rock makes everything better.

Rock makes everything better? Lol. That's about silly.

Nothing can outdo the musical touch of Akira Ifukube. Rock is NOT for any Godzilla film. At all.

"Rock doesn't make everything better," is a fairly niave thing to say. I don't agree any "rock" song would have worked well with that particular scene from Godzilla vs. The Gryphon and it would have most likely benefitted best from an original score, depending on how the scene was shot. (Not to mention the song you suggest would've been so on the nose that it would have bordered self-parody.) But, we'll never know now, since we don't know how the director would have shot the scene.

I enjoy rock music, but claiming it would automatically improve scenes just because it is of a certain genre of music is not carefully considering all the variables that go into filmmaking.

@Gman2887 But rock would make for great background music, whether it be played in the background itself or be played on a radio in the movie. Also, how would it be "self-parody"? One other way I could see rock working out in a movie like this is if it either distracted the monster or drove it off. I could even see a music video coming out in which the band drives Godzilla off using the Power or Rock.

- Rock does NOT make everything better. In fact, it can ruin certain key points.

- How about we just lob in some Metallica, Hammerfell, Dragon Force, or Sonata Arctica while we're at it?

-Final Wars was not "good" in the least. Definitely near the bottom of the totem pole of Godzilla films.

- Godzilla Music videos are fine. Make your own, if you haven't already.

- Dokken... ugh.

^Pretty much all the fine bullet points.
