i not making fun of anyone or think that your views are invalid, this is my personal opinion on destroyah, i do not understand why people call him the most powerful enemy of godzilla and fans even complain/rage if someone doesn't have destoryah as #1 in a top 10 most powerful godzilla enemies. if he is so powerful and tough even when godzilla was at his most powerful then why was he nowhere near even killing him, the only significant thing he did against godzilla was both kill his son and cut him his his laser horn, godzilla mostly kicked his ass and didn't even push him, also destoryah has one big weakness, extreme cold tempreture, he got killed by the g-force, that doesn't sound like someone who is considered more stronger than even king ghidorah. please do not rage this is 'my' opinion. what are yours.

The thing is, no matter what Godzilla could throw at Destroyah, he would simply shrug it off and either not care, or recombinate out and back into his Final Form. Even when it seemed that Godzilla had the upper hand in the end, Destroyah would likely just recombinate as he did before, and couldn't truly be killed, like how the only thing that truly killed any Godzilla iteration was the Oxygen Destroyer and a self-induced-uncontrollable nuclear meltdown. Besides, almost every monster has some sort of specific weakness, and Godzilla didn't possess the means to exploit Destroyah's, but G-Force and the JSDF did, just like how Dr. Serizawa did as well in 1954.

If you think Godzilla mostly kicked his ass I suggest you rewatch the fight as Destroyah was winning very obviously until Godzilla hit his critical temp and was giving off so much energy and heat even his spines were melting.

Destroyah beating Godzilla for most of a fight when he's his most powerful has much more weight than almost killing him when he's in a weaker form. Sure MechaG was the closest to killing him, but then Godzilla aquired his spiral ray and took him out very quickly. The same spiral ray that Destroyah took point blank numerous times without flinching. Point is Ghidorah never even got hit by the spiral ray and was still beaten, MechaG took it maybe 3 times before he got destroyed, and SpaceGodzilla took it maybe 4 or 5 before he was beaten, but Destroyah fought when that was the only thing being used on him.

If any1's overrated it's Ghidorah who has been beaten by Godzilla more times than any other monster but still is considered the strongest by those who argue against it being Destroyah.

Godzilla at his meltdown was the strongest incarnation of Godzilla and most of the fight, Destroyh was clearly winning with Godzilla not having a chance. Godzilla was in Melee very strong, but Destroyh beat him a few times. That thing with the spiral heat ray is right, Godzilla killed Gidorah with his normal atmoic breath and Mecha and Space G had no chance against the power ray, but Destroyh took it a thousand times and was still beating Godzilla.

Yes, he was killed by the army, but this was a stupid ending, that was not the real ending. The reale ending is much better, in this, they shoot Destroyah the same way, he falls down but he don't die. Then he and Godzilla fight another times, this time the army helps Godzilla with their ice weapons and he finally beats Destroyah. It is so much better, Destroyah isn't killed by the army and Godzilla himselfs finishs him. But still, he was only able to kill Destroyh, because the army helped him.

I like Destroyah, one of my favorite monsters, but I think noboda likes all the monsters. A lot of people like Mothra, for me, it's a stupid butterfly. Everybode has a his own opinion.

well the only reason godzilla was able to take down super mg was because his diamond sheild melted due to rodans energy tranfering, spacegodzilla lost his crystal power tower, was tagged team by the asstitance of mogera(who destoryed his shoulder crystals) and was already dying before godzilla finished him off with his sprial beam. godzilla did more significant damage to destoryah, yes he tossed godzilla mutiple times but godzilla made him vomit blood and could hit him in close quaters and that was before when went crtical(melting point), yes destroyah could withstand the most powerful attack but he wasn't close to killing godzilla and the beam still hurt him, if anything he made him more angry by killing his son. and if your argument against ghidorah is that he has been defeated more times, then has he ever been defeated by 'just' godzilla (gmk does not count), oh and the gforce killing destoryah does not count either.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-22-2014 11:02 AM

also i thought most people did not like mothra, she is a good monster and the most brave, taking ghidorah head on as a larva, fighting godzilla when she is dying. godzilla, mothra and king ghidorah can work well as well, godzilla the anti hero, mothra the brave couragous goddess and ghidorah the planet destoryer.

MemberBaragonJan-22-2014 11:15 AM

Rodan's power gave godzilla the spiral ray so it's safe to say that if the plating remained it would have been melted by the ray. Godzilla never used the ray until the end but I doubt something that almost instantly killed spaceGodzilla would have been hindered much by his tower being there.

And yes Godzilla made Destroyah puke blood, the Destrayah separated, reformed and showed no sign of injury and at and went back to throwing Godzilla around. Point still remains Godzilla had no real advantage till he hit critical the fight just went back and forth mostly in Destroyah's favor.

Ghidorah's been beaten 2 times in fair fights between him and Godzilla. In Godzilla vs Gigan it was 2v2 and Ghidorah lost. In Godzilla vs King Ghidorah he was beaten again, without use of the spiral ray the Godzilla needed to beat almost every other enemy in that series.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-22-2014 11:23 AM

you say godzilla beat ghidorah 1 on 1 in godzilla vs king ghidorah but you do know godzilla only starting winning when he 'got help' from the humans who smashed to future peoples computer and messed up ghiodrah control which stunned him, i'm still going to defend ghidorah, also ghidorah is the enemy of course he's going to lose, also gigan almost tried to leave him. also when destoryah reformed all he did was toss him, that was it then godzilla (even though he was starting to melt) pretty much owned him, destoryah is very durable and tough, but that doesn't make him the most powerfull, at leat the way he was shown in the movie.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-22-2014 11:35 AM

Technically going off that was it not Ghidorah who got help before the computers were destroyed? Nothing weakened him physically after they were destroyed he just didn't have a human mind behind his physical strength to help him win. Once the computers were destroyed it was essentially 1v1 and Godzilla won. Well before Gigan left it was essentially 3v2 since the Godzilla tower had more than enough firepower to count as a monster itself while only being stationary. So if Ghidorah was so powerful could he not outdo Godzilla in a movie that the odds were the most stacked in his favor?

Yes Destroyah reformed and tossed him, but point is godzilla still had the wounds from Destroyah's horn while Destroyah showed no blood or injury from what had been done to him before. Had godzilla not hit critical could he have had any more power than what he already used? Eventually Destroyah would have worn him down as I said, most of the fight besides the small portion that Godzilla made him puke blood, despite getting wounded by the horn in the process, so arguably went even, it was in Destroyah favor. He's not just tough his offenses are also extremely powerful as 2 shots from his breath killed the baby who was basically Godzilla at that point in the series, and horn could wound even the adult Godzilla; that included in his sheer size and strength that he showed by easily dragging Godzilla and throwing him around adds enough credit to the argument that the monster had more than defense.

can i just point out that this was 'MY'! opinion, i said to not rage at me because 'I' think destoryah is overrrated.

edit: forget what i just said, i realize that i asked for other peoples opinions.

MemberBaragonJan-22-2014 11:54 AM

Not raging as much as pointing out facts behind why people see this monster as such a great enemy, or classify him as the strongest monster Godzilla's faced.

Personally Godzilla vs Destroyah is my favorite movie of the series, not because of Destroyah but because of the story around the monster. Godzilla is at his peak of power to the point even the whole world is in danger, he's beaten every enemy he's gone up against from old rivals to new clones and he's stronger than ever before, what could possibly go against him besides the embodyment of the only weapon to ever kill a godzilla? While the monster itself is interesting it's the story the the movies creates all the things throughout the whole heisei era leading up to the final confrontation that makes him 1 of the greatest. We get to see Godzilla get to absorb stronger radiation in Godzilla vs Ghidorah. We get to see him get even stronger from Rodan and then finally it becomes too much for even him and while Destroyah is normally seen as the antagonist, for a small section of the movie you can see how he can actually be the protagonist for the humans who's world could end with him being the only thing that can possibly stop Godzilla before the melts down and takes japan with him. Granted that's somewhat thrown away with the ice weapon ending but the sentiment is there

You're entitled to your opinion GODZILLAFAN1995, but the fact is that Destoroyah is Godzilla's single most powerful enemy.

Why?

Because, as I've said in other threads, he's the ONLY opponent that was able to withstand over half a dozen blasts of Godzilla's red-spiral ray in close proximity without sustaining more than minor damage. The worst it did to him was start tearing at his wings and blast one of the frills off the side of his head. That's it. Mechagodzilla II was obliterated after 3-4 direct blasts, and Spacegodzilla was knocked over and forced to retreat into an energy form like Billante did after about 3-4 blasts.

And another important fact to consider about that fight is this: if Spacegodzilla hadn't had his power crystals in the first place, Godzilla could have kicked his ass a lot sooner given how quickly the tide turned at the end of the fight when his shoulder crystals were gone.

I don't believe you've watched the fight against Destoroyah enough. Godzilla is knocked down multiple times, draged around by his throat not once but twice, sliced and cut deeper than any other enemy has ever been able to do (in critical mass no less), and pushed to the brink before he finally hit the final stage of his meltdown.

It's not an opinion that Destoroyah is Godzilla's single most powerful enemy, it's a fact.

Monster X and Kaizer Ghidorah come close, but they're both the same creature and even in his final form, Godzilla only needed the mutant's boost of power to take him down and one, count it, ONE, red-spiral ray to obliterate him.

Destoroyah, unlike King Ghidorah or other fan favorite Godzilla foes, actually has a reputation which he's rightfully earned. In fact, I counted nine total blasts from the red-spiral ray before Destoroyah started flying away. Godzilla was knocked down three times, dragged around twice, and thrown entirely off the ground once before the fight ended.

Also, had the Super X III and the military not interfered, Destoroyah could have either sucessfully completed his retreat to fight another day as Godzilla melted down, or broken himself up and reformed again good as new to continue the fight.

Godzilla didn't defeat Destoroyah at all, the military's freezing weapons did. That fact, in and of itself, also counts towards Destoroyah's power and reputation.

Again, it's not an opinion that Destoroyah is Godzilla's single most powerful opponent. It's a fact. Even Godzilla's most powerful form couldn't defeat it, and in the end it took a weapon other than Godzilla to destroy it. Had Godzilla Junior's revived form engaged Destoroyah, I can guarantee he'd have lost handily when even his father's most powerful form couldn't prevail.

look i love that movie, it was the best movie to end the heisei series, i liked the fact that the oxygen destoryer, the weapon that killed the first godzilla was a cool twist in a movie that had a dying godzilla whose death could destory earth. but that's not the point, the point was that i think destoryah is a bit too overrrated, so much to the fact that somepeople want him in either in the maybe sequels of godzilla 2014, also anouther movie with destoryah would only work if this movie was a sequel to gojira 1954, if he has no direct link to the O.D in any future movie then that takes away from destoryah's symbolism.

I have every Godzilla film on dvd, been a fan my whole life and have seen so many ups and downs. Destroyah was one of the lowest points in the series for me. I don't get why so many people love it. To put it bluntly, it's incredibly boring with some embarassing effects. The destroyah design is awesome . . .until you see it move, or attempt to move. It's so bulky and lifeless. Than we get the standard hesei series ray battles with neither opponent seeminging to get the upper hand.  Destroyah didn't come off all that powerful to me.The Junior/crab destroyah fight was better. Now when I first watched Biollante as a kid I was horrified. I thought Godzilla was going to die.

Oh and since we're talking about overrated creatures . . .Kiryu. BOTH Kiryu movies were so awful to me and while it's a better design than 93 Mechagodzilla, it's the least interesting/powerful of them all.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-22-2014 12:17 PM

yeah kiryu's movies weren't good he looked cool and definatly better than mg2, mg1 is more terrifing, i would like a combo of kiryu and mg1

Destroyah could be brought back, in a sequel to the upcoming movie. We have no idea what weapons will be used in the upcoming movie. I could easily see a test weapon possibly something like the anti nuclear Bacteria from Godzilla vs Biollante creating him, thus he is made, once again by a weapon created specifically to combat and kill Godzilla that's where his symbolism lies it doesn't necessarily need to be a Oxygen Destroyer, it'd be nice but concessions would have to be made similar to how they'd have to change almost any Godzilla foe if they were to be brought back.

It's unfortunate that monsters are judged by how powerful they are and what their backstories include these days. Considering this is an offshoot of the King Ghidorah thread, I think I'll leave my finer points there. Here I'll simply say:

Destroyah's a cool monster in theory, but there's nothing about him that was executed much differently than most Heisei beasts.

"'Nostalgic' does not equal 'good,' and 'standards' does not equal 'elitism.'" "Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is your choice."

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-22-2014 12:31 PM

biollante deserves to be in a flim more than destoryah, she technically didn't even lose or die and she had a unique origins (the gcells part was orginal at the time)

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-22-2014 12:34 PM

yes thank you gman, he is a cool monster, but he is if you think about it the same as spacegodzilla and even he did suffered because of the movie but he still seemed really powerful and evil.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-22-2014 12:57 PM

Isn't the theory behind the monster what matters? I mean look at kaiser Ghidorah. Looks almost completely different than Ghidorah besides the 3 heads but because of that character trait as soon as you saw those heads you knew it was ghidorah. Point being in terms of looks alone that could easily be changed in any reboot at long as the basic structure or memorable qualities stayed the same.

Made from weapon that causes serious harm to Godzilla is some way, has different forms, is very powerful and wallah you have destroyah even if he looks almost completely different. I'd be all for updating the look as chances are it could be done better without the constraint of a suit actor needing to use it.

G. H. (Gman)

AdminGodzillaJan-22-2014 1:08 PM

No, the theory is not what matters. At all. If that were the case, Godzilla, Rodan, Varan and Baragon would be the same monster.

What's presented on screen matters. Any character can say a monster is powerful or spit out a lengthy origin, as often is the case in later Godzilla movies. But to actually execute a monster that is different from past creatures and give the audience something new and exciting is much more impressionable.

In the case of Destroyah we got standard Heisei monster fare. He's kind of like the "status-quo" creature of the 1990s movies.

"'Nostalgic' does not equal 'good,' and 'standards' does not equal 'elitism.'" "Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is your choice."

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-22-2014 1:37 PM

They essentially are though. Irradiated Dinosaurs with the exception of baragon as I don't think there was ever any backstory from him he just sort of appears in Frankenstein Conquers the World. To be fair to make something new becomes harder as time goes by simply because new isn't as easy. Sure Ghidorah was different but then again besides anguirus he was the second monster created out of a Godzilla movies with all the previous ones coming from their own starts. I feel Destroyah did add something new. While it's true Hedorah also had changing forms Destroyah obviously paid homage but added it's own twist. Born out of the actual thing that killed Godzilla gave him the rival feel, and I was at least excited to see Godzilla fight the monster who had just killed the baby I'd watch grow up throughout the series. Granted during the first watch I had no idea Godzilla was going to die. While the fight was slightly anticlimatic that's mostly due to as you said habit of the heisei movies to have fights featuring about 90% beams and a suit that wasn't easy to manuever in that was by no means the monster's fault as much as design and directing.

G. H. (Gman)

AdminGodzillaJan-22-2014 1:47 PM

But it's in design and directing where these beasts come alive. The reason Godzilla was beloved is because he birthed the genre, granted, but he was certainly inspired. The reason Rodan was beloved is because he's a beast that takes to the skies and attacks from above. He even had a mate in his debut movie. Baragon, still baffles me, but I assume it's because he was the beast that took on Frankenstien. The burrowing ability was new as well. Plus he's kinda cute... Varan never as beloved, why? One theory is because his execution was based on lumbering back and forth small sets like a smaller Godzilla. They even used stock footage from the Godzilla (1954) to tie together his attack.

I don't see how Destroyah being born of the only weapon to kill Godzilla added any sort of rivalry aspect than other monsters. It's not even the same Godzilla that's fighting Destroyah and there's nothing to suggest a rivalry during the battle. The backstory is almost non-consequential because he acts and moves (well... moves as much as he can) like SpaceGodzilla, Mecha-Godzilla...etc... from previous Heisei outings.

Granted, it is harder to give the audience something new to watch as time goes on, but that didn't stop the Gamera trilogy from giving the title monster a very different creature to fight three movies in a row-- excusing the Hyper Gyaos in the third film anyway.

There's simply more than backstory that makes these monsters. If that were the case, none of them would have caught on.

"'Nostalgic' does not equal 'good,' and 'standards' does not equal 'elitism.'" "Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is your choice."

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-22-2014 2:57 PM

First off I think we need to give the other Heisei monsters some serious credit. I feel the biggest issue with Destroyah is how badly he streilizes other monsters. Biollante put Godzilla out of commission until the futurians arrived and nearly wiped his radioactive counter clean. Ghidorah's strength or power wasn't impressive, it was that the creature could be so efficiently controlled by the futurians! Ghidorah wiped the floor with Godzilla until its head controls were taken out. Battra twice took Godzilla with him to the ocean floor, the first time into magma and the second to HIS OWN GRAVE! Mechagodzilla was invulnerable to ANY blue ray, and was staked head to toe in insanely powerful weapons. In fact if Rodan wasn't there, Godzilla would have just died. DIED.

Hell even Spacegodzilla and Mothra had the abilities to use their BRAINS. I feel like the only conceptually interesting thing about Destroyah is the fact it is revived from the oxygen destroyer. Visually I can't stand Destroyah's final form, it does nothing for my imagination. I believe Destroyah is popular in the same way Bagan is; a thunder-thighed, sanguid coloured, spiky, batwinged, satanic boss monster catering to 'extreme' 90's sci-fi action.

One burning godzilla is not the strongest recarnation it final wars And destroyah is not his strongest enemy it Keizer ghidirah. yes because he was bout to kill godzilla n it took godzilla at his strongest form to kill him. Now with destroyah yes he tough n took alot of his spiral rays but he wasn't close to killing he hurt him but still godzilla would of end up killing him. And if it was godzilla final war fighting destroyah then it would of end a whole lot quicker because in final war godzilla was killing everyone with one atomic ray n taking more than one monster until keizer ghidirah. But I do think destroyah is cool but not his strongest enemy.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-22-2014 11:37 PM

The rivalry in my eyes stems from his origin. He was born from the only real thing to kill Godzilla, and while this wasn't the same Godzilla it was a stronger one thus he didn't kneel over and die after just 1 shot. To see the strongest form of Godzilla take on a personified version of the thing that killed him made the fight for me. True it was never established as a rivaly, but as I said with Ghidorah no movie except maybe Spacegodzilla coming to earth simply to kill Godzilla ever established a rivalry it's mostly been up to the fans.

I don't know why you don't think Destroyah is iconic. True he may not hold the same stature Ghidorah or Mothra do, but he is definitely among the upper level of monsters popular from the series as evident by the fact he's been returned in almost every game released after his movie showing the monster has a following and popularity larger than a lot of the monster's who's place he took. There's also the fact heisei movies were't released initially in the US unless you special imported them before DVDs. That alone could also explain a lot of the villains from heisei not having the iconic role they may deserve over showa monsters whos movie was realeased in the US, in movie theaters in most cases.

G. H. (Gman)

AdminGodzillaJan-23-2014 1:04 PM

Perhaps rivalry is the wrong word for either King Ghidorah or Destroyah-- "foils" might be a better noun in the sense of creatures trying to outdo another. (In that case I still believe King Ghidorah is the better represenative since he keeps coming back for more against Godzilla both within a single movie and amongst several.)

The problem is the ideas you described are there, but there's nothing onscreen to show this battle was any different from other Heisei battles. Changing the color of Godzilla's beam and look and "saying" Destroyah was birthed from the Oxygen Destroyah isn't enough. The stakes were never raised from previous battles: Just a lot of bumping into one another and beam spitting, like always. The backstory just wasn't enough to make up for a bulky, stagnant creature. That said, for a Heisei battle, it was more entertaining than the previous three films.

Was he as great of a threat as Godzilla in the movie? We'll never know, they don't bother to show or explain that. What would he have happened to a city had he attacked it? Would it had been any different from previous monsters? We won't know that either, he simply wen't into battle. But it would've been a great opportunity to show how dangerous he was and set him apart from other Heisei beasts from the audience.

There's an old adage in film that cites, "show don't tell." Destroyah is a case of "tell" relying on same'ole, same'ole to "show". Characters tell us he was awoken from the Oxygen Destroyer. He's  a dangerous beast...etc...etc... But none of that really comes off the screen. At least no more than, say, SpaceGodzilla. Great ideas are one thing, but execution is the other half.

Now is Destroyah popular amongst the fanbase? Absolutely. I like the creature despite its flaws and enjoy seeing it in comics and video games. But so are a lot of other monsters. That doesn't make them iconic. I imagine he's popular due to the film's popularity which, in truth, was very gimmicky looking back on it. This is a movie I love, mind you, but that doesn't keep it from being near-fatally flawed.

"'Nostalgic' does not equal 'good,' and 'standards' does not equal 'elitism.'" "Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is your choice."

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-23-2014 2:37 PM

oh just to point out, out of all the heisei monsters, king ghidorah destoryed/attacked the most cities, where's the movies after had mostly one city attacked.
